The Snapdragon X Elite and the Snapdragon X Plus were announced in April, and with it, Qualcomm is competing seriously against the Apple M-series from the small computer market. However, the company has one overarching issue: pricing. This news comes from Qualcomm’s Q3 earnings call may devices using Snapdragon X Plus & Snapdragon X Elite could cost around $700 in 2025.

More About Qualcomm Snapdragon Plans

Though Qualcomm has not disclosed exact sales numbers for these chipsets yet—likely due to the range of devices they offer having just started hitting shelves Amon said that the company is seeking to release those products at competitive price points and without making trade-offs on NPU performance. Although Amon did not mention with which chipset $700 phones would launch, it’s expected that Snapdragon X Plus will be the answer for that price bracket.

As for the Snapdragon X Elite, it remains to be seen what kind of price tag OEMs slap on devices with this modem; existing machines that feature Qualcomm’s top-tier chip – such as Microsoft’s Surface Laptop, which goes for $999.99 – will likely carry even higher prices when they pack in a premium-quality mobile modem. Amon said more news would come at the IFA Berlin trade show in early September and added he thinks Qualcomm will end up being one of the best suppliers for AI PCs going forward.

There are also some rumors that Qualcomm may be developing a Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2, that could potentially bump up the Adreno 830 GPU at an overclocked rate as well as the same graphics processor expected to complement the Snapdragon Gen 4. Though unconfirmed, this seems to further reinforce Qualcomm’s commitment to the ARM notebook sector with Snapdragon 8cx and potential successors. The work that the company is doing seems to exemplify new features and improvements which are likely headed our way in no time, helping Qualcomm stay ahead of the competition.
