The Qatar Olympic Committee is planning to bid for the 2036 Olympics and Paralympic Games. They have confirmed a formal request to be considered in a first phase of non-binding dialogues. These will analyse if they have the capacity to host the games.

Three of their prior attempts to host the games have been rejected – 2016, 2020 and 2032. And now, they are planning to go all-in to host the 2036 edition of the games, with Indonesia and India also in contention.

Qatar to bid for 2036 Olympics after 2022 World Cup

Qatar is determined to bring the 2036 Summer Olympic Games to Doha, according to a source familiar with the Olympic bidding process. The success so far of the ongoing FIFA soccer World Cup has emboldened the Qataris and strengthened their resolve to host the Olympics. pic.twitter.com/Nah2iQ0qWR

“The Qatar Olympic Committee announced today that it has formally delivered to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) its petition to join the ongoing dialogue phase to host a future edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as soon as 2036,” the body wrote through its Twitter account.

The venues for the subsequent editions of the tournament have already been confirmed – Paris (France) in 2024, Los Angeles (United States) in 2028 and Brisbane (Australia) in 2032. Which means that the earliest edition which Qatar can host will be 2036.

However, this depends on whether they receive an approval from the international governing body. They had to host the FIFA World Cup during the winter months in order to avoid the sweltering temperatures during the summer. And this might be something that’s taken into consideration when making the decision.
