Pushtaini
Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has joined his acting coach Vinod Rawat’s feature directorial debut, “Pushtaini” (“Ancestral”), as a presenter. Rawat, who helmed Season 1 of Disney+ Hotstar’s Emmy-nominated series “Aarya” with Ram Madhvani, has been Roshan’s acting coach since “Kaabil” (2017).
Hrithik broke the news on Instagram, where he also shared the film’s trailer. Vinod has worked with Hrithik since the latter’s acclaimed 2017 film Kaabil, including Super 30, Vikram Vedha, War, and this year’s Fighter.
In “Pushtaini,” Rawat plays Bhuppi, a poor actor who is determined to seize his final opportunity at success after being caught up in an unpleasant controversy. Forced to return home and confront his history, Bhuppi wanders through the mountains, sharing adventures with others, ignorant of what awaits him.
Pushtaini, which has a cameo by Rajkummar Rao, is Vinod’s feature film debut as an actor, director, writer, and producer. The film made its South Asian premiere at the 2023 Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
Vinod plays Bhuppi, a destitute actor who returns to his hometown in pursuit of one final chance, only to realize that his father died a year before. The film then follows Bhuppi as he attempts to understand his father, the human condition, and the world around him.
“Vinod Rawat’s Pushtaini left me completely awestruck,” Hrithik remarked in a statement, recalling how he first viewed the film last year. “Vinod was not only an amazing actor, portraying Bhuppi with all his heart, but he also shown an incredible mastery of the craft as a director. I was blown away by how he wore all of the hats and delivered a film full of moments that lasted with me long after.

I was blown away by how he wore all of the hats and delivered a film full of memorable moments that lingered long after the screen went black. I am proud of Vinod’s accomplishments and excited to present his debut to a larger audience. This is for the team. This is for everyone who dream, for those who face their anxieties and strive to deliver truthfully.”
Pushtaini also stars non-professional performers, including Vinod’s family members. Rita Heer co-wrote the film and plays a key character.
