“The player experience is always of a top priority for PUBG Mobile Esports so it felt natural and confident to enter a partnership with Sony’s XperiaTM. We look forward to seeing our players showcasing an even stronger performance with their Xperia flagship Series at our global tournaments this year,” said James Yang. Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports.

You may not consider the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III as gaming phones, but Sony actually has put a lot of effort into making them just that. The engineers have constantly been in touch with pro players since the Mark II generation.

They have gone as far as to record the finger movements of the players and replicate them with a robot to help them fine-tune the display. The display has a 120Hz refresh rate along with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz.

There are features such as an “L-y raiser”, which brightens up the shadows (without blowing out the rest of the image) to make it easier to spot enemies hiding in the dark. It will be interesting to see if the tournament rules allow the usage of this feature and Sony’s other game changes.
