PSG may be forced to sell Neymar or Mbappe, so Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on them

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body are due to announce on Thursday whether PSG are guilty of breaching FFP regulations. If found guilty, PSG may be forced to sell Neymar or Mbappe and Real Madrid are keen on signing either of them.

PSG signed Neymar from Barcelona for a world-record £198 million fee, after meeting his mammoth buy-out clause. The Ligue 1 side also captured Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe, on an initial 12-month loan deal. However, the switch automatically turned permanent for a fee of £160 m in the current transfer window.

European football’s governing body has been investigating the French side since April. After a Financial Times report indicated that the club allegedly inflated sponsorship deals to help in their pursuits of the striking duo. The ruling is due out later today.

UEFA have, according to the report, a number of options available to them should PSG be in breach, including:

  • Fine them
  • Force them to sell players to meet FFP
  • Ban them from signing new players

But a story from Spanish radio station Onda Cero claims that Thomas Tuchel’s side are worried that Uefa could come down hard on their transfer dealings and would force them to sell one of their star assets.

Real Madrid is watching the situation extremely closely. And they would be more than happy to take the Brazilian back to Spain. Neymar is likely to replace Ronaldo in the Real Madrid squad.

However, while PSG having to sell to meet FFP or being banned from signing players are possible and plausible, they are highly unlikely outcomes. The most likely outcome would be a fine, certainly if history is anything to go by.
