Indian laptop buyers who want something different from Windows may have a new option. Primebook has officially launched the Primebook 3 Max, the first laptop in its third-generation range, built around the new MediaTek Genio 720 chip and an expanded PrimeOS. Hardware: A Step Up From the Last Generation

The Genio 720 pairs with LPDDR5 memory, replacing the slower LPDDR4X used before. Primebook says this combination delivers up to 40% higher performance than the previous generation, though that figure comes from the company. The chip includes an NPU for supported AI tasks on the device. MediaTek says its 6nm design and 8th-generation NPU offer up to 10 TOPS, enough for things like speech recognition and on-device generative AI.

PrimeOS: What Makes It Different

PrimeOS is Primebook’s Android-based operating system, and this launch adds several features aimed at everyday users.

PrimeOffice. A free, offline-first suite with PrimeDocs, PrimeSheets and PrimePresent, offered as an alternative to Microsoft Office, which is limited on Android. The company claims over 90% of the same functionality. It debuts on the 3 Max, with Primebook 2 and 3 Pro users getting it in the coming months.

Linux apps and terminal. PrimeOS gives free, native access to select Linux software by using the same Linux kernel. Listed apps include VS Code, GIMP, LibreOffice, Firefox, Arduino IDE, DBeaver CE, TablePlus and Postman, which makes the laptop more useful for students, developers and engineers.

PrimeSecurity and Task Manager. PrimeSecurity scans for dangerous or fake apps, warns about non-authentic developer signatures, and can block resource-hungry background apps. Task Manager shows CPU and RAM use and lets you manage startup apps, with suggested fixes when device health drops.

PrimeAGNT and PrimeX Cloud PC. PrimeAGNT is a patent-published AI agent designed to understand a goal, read what is happening across apps and carry out the steps on the device. Its patent was published by the Indian Patent Office in August 2026, which is a publication, not a grant. PrimeX Cloud PC is another value-added service.

Design, Ports and Everyday Features

The 3 Max has a metallic body, slimmer profile and matte finish. Ports include a full-function USB 3.2 Type-C (charging, OTG and display output via HDMI cable), USB 3.2 Type-A, USB 2.0 Type-A, a USB 2.0 Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack and a MicroSD slot. For calls, there is a 5MP webcam recording 1440p at 30fps, dual microphones with software noise cancellation and dual stereo speakers. The keyboard is backlit with three brightness levels.

Should You Consider It?

If you need a light, affordable laptop for study, browsing and basic coding, the Linux support and free office suite are strong selling points. If you depend on Windows-only software, an Android-based system may feel limiting. Performance claims are from the company, so wait for independent reviews.
