Premier League footballer arrested twice on 2 counts of rape

A Premier League footballer has been arrested and released bail following reports of him being involved in two more incidents of rape against different women. The accused cannot be named for legal reasons, but he has been arrested for the same crime in the past. The footballer is in his late twenties and is allegedly an important member of his current club. 

The player was initially arrested on Monday, and was in custody till Tuesday when the second arrest took place. The bail is valid until August, and further inquiries are taking place as of right now.

The Metropolitan Police force issued Sky Sports the following statement about the matter: 

“On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.

“On 4 July, a man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody.

“While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021 against a different woman in her 20s.

“He has subsequently been released on bail to a date in August. Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
