Prahaar Box Office Collection: Rajkummar Rao’s Ujjwal Nikam Biopic Struggles Through Weekend 2

Great performances don’t always bring big crowds. Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is proof. Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama earned praise for its acting, but the box office tells a tougher story.

What Is Prahaar About?

The film is directed by Avinash Arun and follows public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. It revisits landmark trials, including the 1993 Bombay blasts and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Rao plays Nikam, Wamiqa Gabbi plays his wife Jyoti, and Lalit Prabhakar plays Ajmal Kasab.

The Good, the Bad and the Weekend Bump

The opening was modest at Rs 2.35 crore, with only 13% occupancy. Weekend growth came through, with Sunday the best day of week 1 at Rs 3.65 crore. After that, weekday numbers slid.

The second weekend didn’t change the story. Saturday jumped about 92% over Friday, but it was still around 63% below the film’s first Saturday. Pinkvilla’s trade report puts the 2nd weekend at only about Rs 3 crore and calls the film a flop.

Why Is Prahaar Struggling?

Three things hurt it:

• Crowded release window. It opened against Nayyi Navelli, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali.
• Beaten by a rival. Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli outearned it over the first weekend, Rs 11.65 crore net against Prahaar’s Rs 9.15 crore.
• Serious subject. Intense legal dramas often need strong word of mouth, and that has been slow to build.

Will It Recover?

It’s unlikely. With new releases arriving and shows shrinking, the film looks set to end well below Rao’s earlier hits. Its lasting value may come from OTT, where thoughtful dramas often find a second life.
