After multiple positive cases found in the Manchester City squad yesterday, Southampton and Sheffield United have confirmed the coronavirus cases. Multiple members of the squad were tested positive.

Premier League has confirmed there is a total of 18 positive cases in the latest testing which took place between 21-27 December.

Sheffield United stated, ‘Sheffield United can confirm the club recorded a number of positive coronavirus tests after the latest round of testing.’

‘Due to medical confidentiality, the club will not be revealing the names of those who have been affected.’

‘The individuals who have tested positive have now entered into a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and Government guidelines.’

‘Earlier today, the Premier League confirmed 18 positive coronavirus tests – the highest figure of the season so far.’

‘Everyone at Sheffield United would like to extend our best wishes to our colleagues and wish them a speedy recovery.’

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl also tested positive. Southampton stated, “Ralph will manage this evening’s game from home and will remain in contact with the team and coaching staff throughout the game via a video and audio link.”

According to Premier League’s rule matches should go ahead if a club has 14 available players, including a goalkeeper, although decisions are taken on a case-by-case basis and dependant on circumstances particularly in relation to the pandemic.

Manchester City’s game against Everton was postponed yesterday but the matches of Sheffield United and Southampton are being played today.
