Police Squad!: The Complete Series- Frank Drebin Is Coming to Netflix, and Yes, the Whole Series Takes Under Three Hours

Some shows are cancelled because nobody watched. Police Squad! was cancelled because, as the story goes, viewers had to actually pay attention to get the jokes. Four decades later, it’s getting a second life. What’s on Netflix reports that the series arrives on Netflix US on November 1, 2026.

Police Squad!: The Complete Series: Overview

What Is Police Squad!?

It’s a spoof of the earnest police procedurals of its era, packed with sight gags, puns and non sequiturs. The creators were the trio behind Airplane!, and Leslie Nielsen plays Detective Frank Drebin with a perfectly straight face, which is exactly why it’s funny.

ABC cancelled it after only six episodes. Yet the character didn’t disappear. Nielsen returned in The Naked Gun (1988), followed by two sequels in 1991 and 1994. The franchise was revived in 2025 with Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., which helps explain the renewed interest.

Why It’s Been Hard to Find?

The series has been surprisingly difficult to stream. The report notes that no US streaming home was listed for it recently, and its UK availability ended in August 2025. Part of the issue is that it was produced by Paramount but aired on ABC, which complicates licensing. Netflix is also adding retro TV elsewhere, with Canada picking up a wave of classics this month.

The Perfect Binge

With six episodes of roughly 25 minutes each, you can finish the whole series in an afternoon. If you want the history before you press play, read the Police Squad! Wikipedia page.
