Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been a huge success since its release and it appears that PlayStation 5 Pro is in the making. The PS5 has sold over 30 million units worldwide and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans worldwide.
The PlayStation 5 was released in November of 2020, and while it is still very compatible with modern-day games, fans wonder if it will receive the same treatment as the PlayStation 4 in the future with a Pro model.
It appears so, as industry insider Tom Henderson recently learned from sources that the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and could be released in late 2024.
We previously heard about a new PlayStation 5 with a detachable disc drive, and many speculated whether it would be the PlayStation 5 Pro model, which it would not be. To give the next-Gen console a fair shake, we can expect an improvement in performance and visuals based on the Zen 4 architecture APU coupled with RDNA 3 graphics.
Furthermore, Sony recently filed a patent indicating that they intend to optimise the PlayStation 5’s ray tracing effects, which may be something they work on in the PlayStation 5 Pro.
The idea of a PlayStation 5 Pro in late 2024 seems plausible, given that the PlayStation 5 would be around 4 years old and may not be able to run games as well as it does now, but we can’t be certain and only time will tell.
While Insider Gaming has previously proven to be extremely trustworthy, we must take today’s report about the PlayStation 5 Pro with a grain of salt. If the hardware revision supporting the detachable disc drive is real and coming this year, Sony may not reveal much about the beefed-up model of its current generation console for some time.
Sony is also working on introducing new features and improvements to the current PlayStation 5 models through system updates, in addition to working on the console’s hardware. The most recent minor update, addressing a Discord chat issue, went live earlier today, while the most recent major update, update 7.00, went live earlier this month, adding Discord integration, VRR support for 1440p resolution, and much more.
