Google Pixel 10 Series Tipped to Get Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Charging

Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 series is expected to feature an advanced wireless charging capability—Qi2 wireless charging with magnetic support. According to a recent leak from Android Authority, based on official marketing material, the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro will offer Qi2.2 support, including the optional magnetic alignment for easier accessory mounting.

It’s an indication that Google wants to lay the foundation for a magnetic ecosystem as it stitches together more pieces in that direction, akin to Apple’s MagSafe, which is now standard on the iPhone 12.

Google Pixel 10 Series May Launch with Qi2 Magnetic Charging and New Pixelsnap Accessory Lineup

Google had teased expanding Qi2 support to new Pixel phones earlier this year. Now, with Qi2.2, the Pixel 10 series will be among the first Android handsets to support proper Qi2 magnetic wireless charging (alongside the upcoming HMD Skyline). The phones will also come with a ConvenientPower CPS4041 chip driver for 60W wireless charging using the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). However, Google may limit the actual charging speed to maintain thermal balance or improve efficiency.

Accompanying this new tech is a line of official accessories under the new “Pixelsnap” branding. At least three accessories are expected: the Pixelsnap Charger, a basic magnetic charging pad; the Pixelsnap Charger with Stand, which could double as a desk stand; and the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, which helps in propping up the phone. All of these accessories point to Google’s desire to establish a magnetic accessory ecosystem for the Pixel lineup.

There’s also “Hub Mode” in the works, supposedly. Aggregating all the previous rumors suggests Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 might even become a smart display while docked on the Pixelsnap Charger with Stand, much like Apple’s StandBy mode. The chargers are expected to come in color variants like “Rock Candy” (black) and “Mist” (white), according to trade listings. Overall, the Pixel 10 series may introduce a significant upgrade in wireless charging and magnetic accessory support.
