From Milan Misfit to Juventus Gem

Kalulu’s Serie A adventure began in 2020 when Milan brought him in from Lyon. Despite flashes of potential, a series of injuries hampered his progress, ultimately rendering him surplus to requirements at Milanello. That shift in status opened the door for Juventus, who, despite not initially prioritizing his signing, secured his services on a temporary deal. The loan agreement included an option to purchase, set at €14 million plus €3 million in add-ons—a figure that’s now beginning to look like a steal.

At just 24 years of age, Kalulu has already shown maturity, tactical awareness, and a relentless work ethic, all qualities that have impressed Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. In fact, the deal to bring him in has been hailed as one of Giuntoli’s most astute moves of the summer window.

Impactful Performances and Tactical Versatility

Kalulu’s showing against Roma highlighted his ability to read the game and make decisive interventions. While he did lose sight of Eldor Shomurodov on the equaliser, his overall contribution to the match stood out. Tudor’s defensive setup has suited Kalulu’s strengths, with the player adapting seamlessly to a back-three system.

“You have to give a lot on a physical level in this system. There are positive aspects that push you to give even more, especially when you see a teammate win two duels: it gives you energy and motivates you to do better,” Kalulu said, shedding light on the demands of the role.

He added, “Then, personally, you know, I think that football is always a question of adjusting, but it all depends on how you interpret it. And from this point of view, I feel good, I feel like I can give my contribution.”

Calm Amid the Noise

Despite the increasing chatter around his future, Kalulu remains focused on the present. Known for his grounded mindset, the defender made it clear that social media doesn’t dictate his self-assessment.

“To be honest, I don’t look at social media much. We’re all professionals, and we know when we’ve played well or badly,” he stated. “If you start looking too much, you risk hurting yourself and it doesn’t help you manage your ego. In the end, I’m happy about my situation.”

The Frenchman also added a light-hearted but revealing comment about his contract status: “Little changes for me, I’m paid until June,” he said with a laugh. “So I’d say that if something were to happen after June, I’d be happy.”

Juventus Ready to Make the Move Permanent

Kalulu’s performances have not gone unnoticed behind the scenes. According to reports from TMW, Juventus have already decided to activate the purchase option included in the loan agreement. The deal—€14 million plus an additional €3 million in variables—is expected to be finalized at the end of the current campaign.

For Juventus, it represents a low-risk investment in a player who has not only bolstered the defense but also brought added depth, composure, and flexibility. For Kalulu, it marks the potential start of a new chapter—one that he appears more than willing to embrace.
