Phantom Blade Zero looks to be a way more involved game than your average hack-and-slash, with recent interviews revealing some juicy new details. The game, developed by S-Game, will feature a main story that takes between 20 and 30 hours to complete, which is longer than most typical action games. Then there are about 20 more hours of side content, more akin to the modern action role-playing games you might expect than the slapdash, pure action experiences players are used to in this genre.

Phantom Blade Zero Will Offer 20-30 Hours of Playtime, 4 Difficulty Levels, Boss Rush Mode & More

Four difficulty levels will also be available, from straightforward to mind-bogglingly challenging. Not only will this variety allow players to set the difficulty according to their taste, but it will also increase the overall playtime of the game. Those who wish to challenge themselves more or play through on both settings can expect far longer gameplay to attempt to fill the experience. One nice addition is that players will not have to restart boss battles from the beginning when defeated. Instead, they will resume the second phase of battle, if they made it that far before they fell.

There’s plenty of rich content to expect in the game. Highlights include a boss-rush mode, in which players can re-face the big baddies of the main campaign. There’ll also be hidden bosses to find, so just from the sounds of it, there’s more than enough content to keep players occupied. The game will also feature a variety of over 30 main weapons and more than 20 secondary weapons, ensuring combat stays fresh and varied throughout the experience.

Having previewed Phantom Blade Zero at Gamescom 2024, it’s clear that the game’s combat mechanics are solid. If the level design, traversal, and encounter mechanics live up to the same standard, it could become one of the best action games ever released. The game will launch on PC and PlayStation 5, though an exact release date is yet to be confirmed.
