Newcastle United parted ways with Steve Bruce following the Saudi Arabia takeover of the club. The manager was in charge of the Magpies for around two years, and led them for the last time against Tottenham Hotspur in a 3-2 defeat.

Now, the conversation surrounding the new manager of the club has started to gain traction. Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte was rumoured to be a possible candidate for the job. The Italian has been out of a job since leaving Inter at the end of the previous season.

But according to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Conte is not even being considered for the job at this point. The front-runner for the hot seat at Newcastle United is currently Paulo Fonseca. The former Roma and Shakhtar manager was in talks with Tottenham Hotspur this summer about the vacant position. However, the talks fell through.

Paulo Fonseca is open and ready to accept Newcastle job. The board is still thinking about candidates, Antonio Conte is not even an option – former Roma and Shakhtar manager is frontrunner as of now. 🇵🇹 #NUFC

Now, he has emerged as the top candidate to take charge of the club following the departure of Steve Bruce. Fonseca has not been given the green light by the new board yet, but contract talks between the two parties are currently going on. Fonseca and Newcastle United are getting closer to an agreement since the manager wants to compete in the Premier League after leaving Serie A.

Once the board agrees to have Fonseca in charge of the club, the Portuguese is ready to accept the offer and lead the next era of the richest football club in the world.
