Path of Exile 2 Crossplay? Complete Crossplay Guide 2025

Planning to dive into Path of Exile 2 with friends who game on different platforms? Good news—Grinding Gear Games delivered full crossplay support from early access launch. Whether you’re grinding on PC while your squad plays on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, you’ll all hunt loot together seamlessly.

Path of Exile 2 Crossplay Support at a Glance

How Crossplay Works in Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 enables PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox players to party together through the social menu by searching for account names, regardless of which platform they’re using. Unlike many games that segregate players by ecosystem, PoE2 treats all platforms equally in public zones, party instances, and endgame mapping.

The implementation feels natural—no clunky workarounds or convoluted friend codes. Simply search your friend’s account name through the in-game social menu, send an invite, and you’re adventuring together. The system works flawlessly whether you’re tackling the campaign, pushing endgame content, or farming currency.

Cross-Progression: Play Anywhere, Anytime

Your character progress and items transfer seamlessly between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S when using the same account. Start your Sorceress on PC during lunch breaks, then continue grinding maps on your console when you get home. Your passive tree, gear, currency, and quest progress all sync automatically.

This flexibility represents a massive quality-of-life upgrade over the original Path of Exile. No more maintaining separate characters across platforms or feeling locked into one ecosystem. Your Exile truly becomes platform-agnostic.

The Microtransaction Catch

Here’s where things get slightly complicated. Microtransactions like cosmetics and stash tabs don’t carry over between platforms, with PlayStation purchases locked to that platform while PC and Xbox share MTX between them.

This means:

• PlayStation purchases stay on PlayStation exclusively
• PC and Xbox share a unified MTX pool
• Stash tabs and cosmetics need separate purchases per ecosystem

Additionally, early access keys are platform-specific, requiring separate purchases if you plan to play on multiple platforms. Budget accordingly if you want the flexibility to play everywhere.

Cross-Platform Trading Unlocked

One underrated benefit? Trading works seamlessly across all platforms. That god-tier rare you need might be listed by a console player, or vice versa. The unified trading economy means better market liquidity and more opportunities to find exactly what your build needs.

No artificial platform barriers restricting your trading options. The entire playerbase contributes to one massive, interconnected economy. Check the official Path of Exile 2 website for the latest trading updates and patch notes.

Console-Specific Features

Console players get an exclusive perk—local couch co-op. Grab a friend, split the screen, and tackle Wraeclast together from the comfort of your couch. This feature harkens back to classic action-RPGs while modernizing the experience with PoE2’s deep systems.

Console players automatically match into instances with other console users unless they specifically join parties that include PC players. This ensures optimal performance while maintaining crossplay flexibility when desired.

Early Access Performance

The crossplay implementation in patch 0.2.0 works remarkably well for early access. While Grinding Gear Games continues refining quality-of-life features like improved cross-platform friend management, the core functionality delivers as promised.

Occasional hiccups exist—friend invites sometimes require multiple attempts, and voice chat works better through Discord than in-game. But these minor inconveniences pale compared to the massive benefit of playing with anyone, anywhere. For more cross-platform gaming news and updates, stay tuned to our coverage.

Should You Buy Multiple Copies?

Only hardcore players need to purchase early access on multiple platforms. Most gamers benefit more from investing those extra dollars into stash tabs and cosmetics for their primary platform. Cross-progression means you can always play on a friend’s console or PC without losing progress—you just won’t have your purchased MTX available.
