Did Park Hyung-sik Call BTS V ‘Immature Kid’? Exploring the Truth Behind Viral Clip

A viral clip has recently sparked controversy across social media platforms, with fans questioning whether Park Hyung-sik called his close friend BTS V an “immature kid.” The clip has divided fan communities and raised concerns about potential friction within the beloved Wooga Squad. Let’s dive deep into the facts and uncover what really happened.

BTS V Viral Clip Breakdown

What Park Hyung-sik Actually Said

Park Hyung-sik recently opened up about his close friendship with BTS’ V, stating “Taehyung is still my cute younger brother” during an interview. This heartfelt revelation has been completely taken out of context and mistranslated in the viral clip.

In multiple interviews, Park Hyung-sik has consistently praised V for his personality and professionalism, sharing his love for his Wooga Squad member.

Understanding the Wooga Squad Dynamic

The famed Wooga Squad comprises Park Seo Joon, Choi Woo Shik, Park Hyung Sik, Peakboy and BTS member V, who are known for their unimaginably close friendship. Within this tight-knit group, V naturally holds the position of the youngest member (maknae).

In Korean culture, referring to a younger friend as a “cute younger brother” is an extremely affectionate term that shows deep care and protective instincts—far from being derogatory.

The Translation Error That Started It All

The controversy stems from a mistranslation of Korean terms. The phrase “귀여운 동생” (gwiyeoun dongsaeng) means “cute younger brother/sister” and is an endearing term used to express fondness. However, some social media users translated this as “immature kid,” completely changing the sentiment.

This linguistic misunderstanding has unfortunately led to unnecessary drama between fandoms.

Park Hyung-sik’s Consistent Praise for V

Park Hyung-sik has consistently praised BTS’s V’s global fame, describing him as unchanged and professional yet ordinary, with their Wooga Squad bond remaining strong through fun-filled reunions and mutual support.

In interviews, Park Hyung-sik has described V as “like a soulmate brother” and revealed that “our families are also close, we visit our parents’ home, that’s how close we are”.

Evidence of Their Strong Friendship

• The duo was recently spotted together at dinner with art curator Eva Chow in May 2025
• Wooga Squad members continue collaborating on projects, appearing together three years after “In the Soop: Friendcation”

Professional Respect

Park Hyung-sik has repeatedly emphasized V’s professionalism and how their friendship remains unchanged despite V’s global stardom. He’s expressed admiration for how V handles his BTS responsibilities while maintaining genuine friendships.

The Dangers of Mistranslation in K-Pop

This incident highlights a recurring problem in international K-pop coverage—mistranslations that can damage relationships and create unnecessary controversies. Korean language nuances, especially terms of endearment between friends, often lose their warmth when incorrectly translated.

Social Media’s Role in Spreading Misinformation

The viral nature of the mistranslated clip demonstrates how quickly misinformation can spread across platforms. Without proper context or accurate translation, innocent comments between friends can be weaponized to create drama.

Fan Reactions and Community Response

While some fans initially reacted with concern, many Korean-speaking fans quickly clarified the mistranslation. The K-pop community’s response has largely been educational, with fans sharing proper translations and context.

Wooga Squad’s Unbreakable Bond

The Wooga Squad—BTS’s V, Park Seo Joon, Park Hyung Sik, Choi Woo Shik and Peakboy—have been friends for years, maintaining an amazing bond that transcends their individual careers.

Their friendship serves as a rare example of genuine connections in the entertainment industry, built on mutual respect and shared experiences.

The Verdict: Complete Misinformation

FACT CHECK RESULT: FALSE

Park Hyung-sik never called BTS V an “immature kid.” The viral clip contains a mistranslation of his affectionate comment calling V his “cute younger brother”—a term of endearment that reflects their close friendship and the natural age dynamic within the Wooga Squad.

This controversy serves as a reminder to verify information, especially when language barriers and cultural contexts are involved.
