Paris 2024 Paralympics: The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced a major collaboration with YouTube to ensure that the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are the most accessible and widely viewed Paralympics in history. This partnership aims to bring the exciting and inspirational world of Paralympic sports to fans across the globe with unprecedented coverage and accessibility.

From August 28 to September 8, the Paralympic YouTube channel will deliver extensive live coverage, highlights, and additional content, all available for free to users in 175 markets and territories worldwide. This new level of accessibility and engagement is set to revolutionize how fans experience the Paralympic Games.

Paris 2024 Paralympics Comprehensive Live Coverage

For the first time, viewers will have access to nearly 1,400 hours of live coverage from all 22 Paralympic sports, including the highly anticipated Opening and Closing Ceremonies. This extensive live feed ensures that fans won’t miss a moment of the action, from the start of each event to the final whistle.

The coverage is designed to cater to all fans, whether they want to follow a single sport or watch multiple events simultaneously. This extensive live broadcast will be complemented by replays and highlights, making it easier for viewers to catch up on any events they may have missed.

Innovative Multiview Feature

YouTube is introducing its Multiview feature globally for the first time during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This feature allows viewers to watch up to four different streams at once. Whether you want to follow multiple sports or keep track of several athletes, Multiview offers a unique and flexible viewing experience.

Previously, Multiview has been used for events such as NFL games and Coachella music festivals. Now, it will make its debut on a global stage for the Paralympics, providing fans with a new way to experience live sports.

Extensive Clips and Highlights

To ensure fans can easily follow the Games, the Paralympic YouTube channel will feature over 1,200 clips each day of the event. These clips will cover every race, match, and contest, allowing viewers to catch up on the action at their convenience.

The clips will be prominently featured with ‘Official Cards’ on the search page, making it easy for fans to discover and enjoy the content. This feature is designed to enhance the viewing experience, ensuring that no moment of the Games goes unnoticed.

Engaging YouTube Shorts

In addition to live coverage and highlights, the IPC will produce nearly 400 YouTube Shorts during the Games. These short videos will focus on memorable sporting moments and provide quick, engaging content for viewers on the go.

There will also be up to 40 athlete feature films, giving fans a deeper look into the lives and journeys of their favorite Paralympians. These Shorts and feature films are intended to highlight the personal stories and achievements of athletes, adding a rich layer of narrative to the Games.

Rising Phoenix Series

As part of its coverage, the IPC will also present ‘Rising Phoenix: Road to Tokyo,’ a three-part series that follows 12 elite Para athletes from 11 countries as they prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This series, created by Emmy Award-winning team Harder Than You Think, continues the Rising Phoenix universe and offers an intimate look at the lives of top athletes.

The series aims to inspire and engage viewers by showcasing the dedication and hard work that goes into preparing for the Paralympic Games. It provides a behind-the-scenes look at the athletes’ training regimens, personal challenges, and triumphs.

Educational and Engaging Content

Ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the IPC has produced a series of educational films to engage and inform audiences about Paralympic sports and athletes. These include:

  • Paris 2024 Sport Explainers: In partnership with Allianz, these 90-second animated guides provide clear and concise explanations of each of the 22 Paralympic sports.
  • Crafting Champions: This series features 22 of the world’s best Para athletes, giving insight into their preparations for the Games.
  • Game Changers: A collection of 22 short films that highlight Para athletes who have made a significant impact on their respective sports.
  • #ChangeStartsWithSport: This series consists of 22 films where Paralympians discuss how Paralympic sport has transformed their lives.
  • Ones to Watch: Short films spotlighting the star athletes in each sport featured at Paris 2024.

These films are designed to educate viewers about the sports and inspire them by sharing the personal stories of the athletes. They offer valuable context and background, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Global Reach and Accessibility

The partnership between the IPC and YouTube is set to maximize the global reach of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. By providing free access to content across 175 markets, this collaboration ensures that fans from around the world can watch the Games, regardless of their location.

Mike Peters, IPC Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “By teaming up with YouTube for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, we will maximize the worldwide reach of the most transformational sports event on this planet, engaging new audiences in the performances of Paralympians.”

Peters also highlighted the impact of the Multiview feature, calling it a game-changer that will captivate viewers with its innovative approach to live sports coverage.

Pedro Pina, Vice President of YouTube Europe, Middle East, and Africa, added, “At YouTube, everyone can find their voice and share it with the world. During the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, YouTube will turn into the global stage for the unsung heroes and heroines of the Games for everyone to celebrate them and be inspired by.”

Enhanced Coverage for Media Rights Holders

Many media rights holders for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are planning to use YouTube to enhance their coverage. Some broadcasters are looking to stream every minute of the sporting action, leveraging YouTube’s platform to reach more viewers and provide comprehensive coverage.

This approach aligns with YouTube’s role as the global digital home for sports content, where more than 35 billion hours of sports content are consumed annually. By incorporating YouTube into their coverage strategies, media rights holders can offer a more immersive and engaging viewing experience.
