Spotify acquires Podz, a Podcast Discovery Specialist Startup

The latest addition to Spotify’s collection of acquired companies is Podz. Podz is a startup wielding a technology that generates preview clips of podcasts. Podz uses machine learning to automate the process of finding key moments from episodes and creating clips out of them. This makes a podcaster’s job much easier. Podz’s algorithm has been trained on over 100,000 hours of audio.

This acquisition, Spotify stated, aims at improving the existing podcast discovery methods. Now we as users/listeners would be able to browse short clips and decide which podcast to invest our time in. Spotify stated that the acquisition would enable them to make make it “easier for listeners to find the content they want to listen to, and for creators to be discovered and build a fan base.”

According to Podz, users on its platform typically follow up to 30 podcasts which is a massive upgrade from an average of just 7. Now that is some improvement and it was only wise of Spotify to have the tech.

What’s Next?

This acquisition comes just days after Spotify announced its Podcast Subscription Service. This would allow select podcasters to charge users for access to their content. Spotify isn’t planning to take its 5 percent cut of subscription revenue until 2023. Eventually, Spotify will have a direct financial incentive. This will be by encouraging its listeners to find and subscribe to as many podcasts as possible. This is where Podz tech will be helpful. They want to be ready for the future as they’re now competing directly with Apple. Apple also launched its Podcasts’ in-app subscriptions last week.

Spotify has stated its plans to integrate Podz’s technology into its own platform. They have also stated that changes due to this integration should be visible before this year ends.

Samsung likely to join the Mutual Transfer Alliance team

Hope you all are familiar with Android’s built-in Nearby Share. Prior to its implementation on a large scale, some of the renowned Android OEMs – Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo introduced a Bluetooth independent file-sharing method that can be implemented universally. It is called Mutual Transfer Alliance or MTA in short. Later on, other companies like Realme and Meizu joined them considering the popularity of the Mutual Transfer Alliance.

The method allows the member-OEM products to exchange files over wireless connectivity with a speed of up to 20 megabytes per second. It gathered so much praise day by day. Some other companies also joined the group recently. Those are ZTE, Hisense, and ASUS.

Now, the team circle is likely to expand more with the engagement of Samsung. As per a renowned leaker Ice Universe, Samsung already joined the team. The leaker also shared an image on Twitter along with the information.

Samsung already has its own file sharing process – Quick Share. Despite that, the company joined the team. The popularity of MTA is probably the main reason behind Samsung’s current step. Joining the team will be beneficial for the users for sure.

Visionox to feature second-gen under-display camera prototype

ZTE is another smartphone maker that is looking to release a device with an under-display camera later on this year, ZTE debuted its first commercially available smartphone with the new tech on its Axon 20 5G.

Now, ZTE is looking to release the next Axon variant with a second-gen, under-display camera. In a post on the company’s Weibo handle, they had mentioned certain features of the camera.

According to that post, the pixel density above the UD camera has been increased by two times and now reaches 400ppi making for a more consistent appearance of the panel.

In addition to that, the panel will now support a 120Hz refresh rate, up from the Axon 20s 90Hz.

In the most recent post of the brand, they flaunt their Visionox InV see Pro display which aids in achieving better clarity and less fogging on the embedded selfie camera.

Tipster Digital Chat Station shared that ZTE is prepping to launch their second-gen UD camera phone soon. More details regarding the device will emerge in the coming weeks. Hopefully, the device provides an improved camera performance.

Paytm’s IPO to raise an estimated $1.6 billion through fresh issue of shares

One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm is gearing up for its blockbuster issue of shares worth 12,000 INR or $1.6 billion, in a long-awaited IPO scheduled for later this year.

Founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma has not been classified as a promoter. This is the first time the company has disclosed how much it is looking to raise. It was unclear if the size of the fundraising would be increased to $3 billion.

Paytm has not mentioned if existing shareholders would be selling their stake in the company as well.

Founder Vijay Sharma has written to the board about the change in his status as a promoter to ensure compliance with the Securities and Exchange Board of India(SEBI).

Doing so ensures the company is not being solely controlled by the founder and is being professionally managed.

A person aware of the matter stated that there are special rights for founders in a startup as its promoter, which gives them control over the company. This change positions the founder as being a mere shareholder. There could be more additions on the board moving ahead.

Here's why Paytm has been removed from Google Play Store_TechnoSports.co.in

Paytm may also consider a pre-IPO funding round. In the event of that happening, the size of the offer would be reduced to the extent of equity shares issued under the pre-IPO placement.

“The founder holds 14.61% of the company’s total paid-up equity share capital on a fully diluted basis and exercises total control over the internal affairs and decision-making process of the company to the extent of his shareholding”. Paytm said in a note.

China’s Ant Group and Alibaba own nearly 38% of One97 Communications while SoftBank owns 18.73% and Elevation Capital has a 17.65% stake.

Paytm aims to go public by November and is expected to file its Draft Red Herring Prospectus with SEBI next month.

It is currently the second-highest valued Indian startup at $16 billion, behind ed-tech startup Byju’s which is valued at $16.5 billion.

In the previous year, One97 Communications consolidated revenue from operations fell 14% to 2802 crore, according to their annual report. Losses fell from 2942 crore to 1701 crore in 2020.

TSMC goes full throttle in the production of 3nm Chips for Apple iPhone 14 Series

Apple’s long-term association with Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC has made it feasible for them to push the boundaries of silicon development. A true testament to their combined success is the production of advanced 3nm chips in H2 of 2022.

Apple is not immune from the ongoing chip shortage, it comes as no surprise that TSMC wants to be prepared for the worst.

According to a new report from DigiTimes claims that TSMC will begin the production of 3nm chips during the second half of 2022. The iPhone 14 Series will launch in the third quarter, which seems to be an ideal timing.

It all depends on if TSMC will face more production issues down the road, 3nm chips are much harder to produce and Apple has already been guaranteed the initial supply of these chips. Due to this, TSMC may not have sufficient chips remaining for its other partners.

E3tjZ8 WYAMtkDV TSMC goes full throttle in the production of 3nm Chips for Apple iPhone 14 Series

Apple needs the 3nm chips not just for the production of its A16 Bionic expected to fuel the iPhone 14 Series. This process may also be used to make chips for Apple’s iPad and Mac lineup. So it is only natural for TSMC to begin production much earlier considering the large product base.

TSMC has also reportedly begun the mass production of N5P chips, or the improved 5nm technology for the iPhone 13 lineup.

TSMC’s latest technology should introduce some performance and power-efficiency improvements when the 15 Bionic officially arrives.

Samsung is also attempting to keep pace with TSMC with its own 3nm node, it has invested $10 billion in a Texas facility.

But the quality of these chips according to industry experts will be inferior in comparison to TSMC’s, but they will be more accessible to companies.

Hungary hold France to 1-1 draw in Euro 2020

0

Hungary managed to draw with World champions France at the Puskas Arena in Budapest as 64,000 fans cheered both teams on. The match was a very entertaining 1-1 draw, with goals being scored on either side of half time for the hosts and the visitors respectively.

Attila Fiola surprisingly have the lead to Hungary, beating France captain Hugo Lloris on his near post in a very cool finish. The player went on to indulge in an extremely enthusiastic celebration near the fans, scaring a reporter on the side in the process.

The hosts went into the lead at half-time, and finished a very defensive first 45 minutes with a surprise goal. The second half saw yet another Willie Orban mistake punished by Antoine Griezmann, after the RB Leipzig defender made two errors in the match against Portugal.

Shortly after half-time, Ousmane Dembele came on for Adrien Rabiot and that opened up the game for France. Rabiot did not offer much, and Dembele’s pace really offered France an instant impact, with the player hitting the post with his first touches.

The fans roared on in the second half, as France continued to attack in the second half. But overall, Hungary put in a solid team effort that helped them secure a point in the end. Hungary still have a chance to qualify for the Round of 16, but they will have to do their best against Germany to try and win. France, on the other hand, face their biggest test yet in Portugal on the next matchday.

Intel’s Tiger Lake refresh Core i7-11390H makes its way at Geekbench

Intel not only did refresh its Tiger Lake-U processors with two new additions at Computex 2021: Core i7-1195G7 and Core i5-1155G7, but also we are likely to see Tiger Lake-H series refresh CPUs as well. The flagship Core i7-1195G7 processor is the first to reach up to 5GHz featuring the same 4 cores and 8 threads.

As we know, both the Tiger Lake-H35 and Tiger Lake-UP3 series share and much like those two refreshed 12-28W based CPUs, and we could see two new rumoured H35 parts known as Tiger Lake-R35/Refresh) in the form of Core i7-11390H and Core i5-11320H.

Now, this Core i7-11390H has recently made its way on Geekbench and it was tested on a Clevo NV4MJ/MK/MH series laptop. While the Intel Core i7-11975G7 CPU scored 1700 points in the single-core and scored 6005 points in the multi-core benchmark, which is quite good considering as this is a quad-core chip.

Whereas the rumoured Core i7-11390H scores 1695 points in single-core and 6062 points in multi-core benchmarks, nearly identical to the 28W models. It will be interesting to see when these rumoured Tiger Lake-H refresh CPUs make their way into the market.

Zimbabwe enjoy winning start to Olympic Repechage in Monaco

Zimbabwe recorded an impressive 21-0 victory against Mexico as the World Rugby Sevens Repechage got underway at Stade Louis II

MONACO, Monaco, June 19, 2021/ — We recap the action from the opening match of the World Rugby Sevens Repechage and look ahead to Saturday’s matches at Stade Louis II.

Zimbabwe recorded an impressive 21-0 victory against Mexico as the World Rugby Sevens Repechage got underway at Stade Louis II.

Nine men’s teams and 11 women’s teams are in Monaco to compete for the three remaining places at Tokyo 2020, and Zimbabwe got off to the perfect start with three tries in their men’s Pool A opener.

Following a cagey opening four minutes, Zimbabwe’s Godfrey Magaramombe strode onto a pass from Ryan Musumhi and through a gap in the Mexican defence to score the first try of the match.

Both sides had a player sent to the sin-bin shortly before half-time, and Zimbabwe coped best with the disruption as they kept Mexico pinned inside their own half at the start of the second period.

With around two-and-a-half minutes remaining Magaramombe turned provider as he gave a scoring pass to Sam Phiri on the right wing. And, there was still time for Munopa Muneta to put some gloss on the win with a third try late on.

“To be back on the field in a place like this is amazing,” Zimbabwe captain Boyd Rouse said afterwards. “Playing these teams is the best and we’re all fighting for the last place [at Tokyo 2020].”

Saturday’s men’s action will kick-off at 09:28 local time (GMT+2) when Samoa, who were runners-up at the Rio 2016 repechage, get their Pool A campaign underway against Mexico.

Samoa’s second match of the day, at 12:34 local time, will be an all Pacific Island affair as they take on a Tonga side captained by Rugby World Cup winner Malakai Fekitoa.

Fekitoa, who will line up alongside his brother Saia and uncle Alaska Taufu in Monaco, is one of three players who need to play 50 per cent of Tonga’s matches in order to become eligible for the country at 15s.

Tonga’s next match is against World Series core team Irelandat 15:24 local time, while their third and final match on Saturday is against Mexico at 18:01 local time.

France, the only men’s team in action in Monaco who appeared at Rio 2016, will start their Pool B campaign with a match against Jamaica at 10:12 local time.

The Crocs have never played a HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournament and so face a stern test against a team who are not only a core team, but finished sixth in the truncated 2020 season.

Jamaica’s next assignment is against Hong Kong at 12:56 local time, after which France will play Chile, who finished joint-seventh when they appeared at the Rio 2016 repechage.

Chile will then play Hong Kong at 15:46 local time before Edmundo Olfos’ side round off Saturday’s action with their encounter with Jamaica at 18:23 local time.

Argentina and Mexico will get the women’s repechage underway on Saturday morning when they take the field at Stade Louis II for their Pool A encounter at 10:58 local time (GMT +2).

The Argentines came sixth at the Rio 2016 repechage in Dublin while their opponents finished joint 15th, so both will be hoping for a fast start in Monaco.

Pool A rivals Russia, who were beaten finalists in Dublin five years ago, and Samoa will follow that match. Argentina will then play Samoa at 16:16 local time, with Mexico taking on Russia 22 minutes later.

Jamaica will not take their place in Pool B after withdrawing from the tournament on Friday due to travel complications encountered by the delegation. In accordance with tournament rules, their scheduled pool matches against KazakhstanPapua New Guinea and Tunisia will be treated as byes.

Papua New Guinea and Tunisia will face each other in the first Pool B match at 14:08 local time. Kazakhstan won all three of their pool matches in the repechage five years ago, and they will hope to keep that run going when they play Tunisia at 17:00 local time.

Vlada Odnoletok, the youngest player in the Kazakh squad at 19, scored a hat-trick of tries against Tunisia at the Youth Olympic Games 2018. Four of the Tunisian squad from that tournament have been selected for the repechage by coach Abbes Kherfani.

Meanwhile, tournament favourites France will kick-off their Pool C campaign at 14:52 local time when they take on Madagascar, who finished 13th at the last repechage in Dublin.

By then Colombia, who like France qualified for Rio 2016, will have opened their campaign against Hong Kong and the South Americans will provide the opposition for Les Bleues in the final match of the day at 19:33 local time (GMT +2).

Camille Grassineau, who scored the first ever Olympic sevens try just 14 seconds into the opening match of the Games five years ago, has been included in David Courteix’s squad and will hope to be smiling come Saturday night.
