BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that after the Indian Premier League, the ICC T-20 world cup is also being shifted to the United Arab Emirates this season to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and for the safety of the players as of now, the Covid situation is not yet in control in India.
The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Jay Shah, stated the following while announcing this venue relocation “We will inform ICC today that we are shifting the T20 World Cup to UAE. The dates of the tournament, the ICC needs to decide.”
Before this on Saturday before making the decision he had stated “Due to the COVID-19 situation in our country, we may shift the tournament to UAE. We are monitoring the situation closely, the health and safety of players are paramount we will take a final call soon.”
BCCI’s initial plan was to safely conduct the 2nd phase of the Indian Premier League in UAE this season while hosting the marquee world tournament in India based on the expectation that the ongoing Covid situation would be tamed under control giving the BCCI enough time to prepare to host the T-20 World Cup.
However, in the current situation in India, due to rising in Coronavirus cases, it is not safe to host the T-20 World Cup. Moreover, there also lies a problem due to their dispute with the International Cricket Council regarding granting tax exemptions on the generated revenues for the marquee event. Under these circumstances hosting the T-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates seems the best feasible choice for the time being.

Intel has seen many setbacks in recent years and has lost quite a bit of its market share. Its fabrication processes have seen considerable set back in its chipset timeline. This severely hampered the company’s ability to deliver chips that can deliver a combination of power and efficiency, especially in laptops.
The biggest blow to the company came when Apple decided to abandon Intel and adopt its own home-developed custom Arm-based chip designs. Intel once had a chance to establish its dominance in the Arm-based SoC market as well, as it once owned XScale, which made Arm-based SoCs that once powered the Pocket PCs and PDAs. However, Intel sold its XScale business in 2006, the year before Apple launched the iPhone and paved the way for Arm-based chips to dominate the mobile market.
And when the company launched its x86-based Atom competitors, they were simply no match for the more efficient RISC architecture underpinning Arm-based designs. But, rumours indicate that Intel is now investigating a possible ‘Plan B’ in a new partnership between it and RISC-V fabless chip designer SiFive.
According to sources, this new partnership will see Intel license SiFive’s IP to create its own SiFive P550-based 64-bit SoC that it will fabricate on its new 7 nm node. This fabrication will help form the basis of a new development platform called the Horse Creek, and Intel announced that it would be made available to customers interested in exploring various applications involving embedded SoC tech.
And the technology is not limited to smartphones, but also cars, IoT products, and the like. For now, the company has not revealed the technical specifications of the SoC, so there is still a doubt as to whether it will be a single-core or multi-core platform. Again, the GPU platform is also still unknown; however, it’s rumoured to be the Xe platform.

Qualcomm’s best mobile processor, the Snapdragon 888, is getting even more powerful at MWC 2021 with the announcement of the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The upgraded model boasts a boosted clock speed, bumping the Kryo 680 CPU from 2.84 GHz up to 2.995 GHz (which Qualcomm is optimistically rounding up to 3 GHz in its marketing.)
Qualcomm has announced its new flagship Snapdragon 888 Plus SoC. The new chip will feature high-end devices starting Q3 2021. The new Qualcomm SoC gets two major performance improvements. The SoC’s prime core CPU gets boosted to 2.995GHz, compared to 2.84GHz on the SD888 SoC.
Qualcomm further said that the new flagship processor comes with an improved AI performance. The new 6th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine has an improved 20 percent performance, resulting in 32 TOPS (Total Operations Per Second) compared to 26 TOPS on SD888. The performance parameters found on the SD888 and also found on the Plus variant. This means that the 5nm SD888+ gets the same X60 5G Modem and Adreno 60 GPU. Other features of the SoC include Bluetooth 5.2 support, FastConnect 6900, triple ISP camera capabilities, Snapdragon Elite Gaming, etc.
The Snapdragon 888 Plus is manufactured using a 5nm process and shares many features with its predecessor. There are some upgrades – even though the 888 Plus features the same 6th Generation AI Engine with Hexagon 780 Processor and 2nd gen Sensing Hub, Qualcomm was able to squeeze more performance out of the system.
The chipmaker has confirmed that several companies are already working on smartphones that will draw power from the new flagship smartphone processor. The likes of Asus, Xiaomi, Motorola, Honor, Vivo, etc will be among the first to adopt the new SD888+ SoC. These companies will commercially launch their respective devices starting Q3 2021.
The graphics giant announced a beastly workstation GPU for its wide range of customers back in November last year in the form of an A100 GPU based on Ampere architecture. Now 7 months later, NVIDIA has announced an A100 variant with a PCI Express interface and 80GB of HBM2e memory.
The new GPU features the exact same features as the regular A100, except on a standard interface, however comes with lower TDP. Interestingly, NVIDIA has retained it on 7nm Ampere GA100 GPU featuring 6192 CUDA cores while the bandwidth has been increased to 2039 GB/s (a difference of 484 GB/s than the A100 40GB).
With such high speed 80GB memory and with such huge amount of CUDA cores, you find this GPU to be a perfect one for high-performance computing to accelerate training using deeplearning algorithms.
Taking this even further, NVIDIA has even launched its GPUDirect Storage feature, similar to the Microsoft DirectStorage technology found on consumer-based Xbox consoles and soon on Windows 11. The tech helps give fast NVMe storage access that can boost loading times in certain workloads like gaming for consumers.
However, NVIDIA’s technology will also be looking to adopt a similar prospect except for access to a large memory pool on the GPU, here, a whopping 80GB of faster HBM2e memory. Surely, many server manufacturers like Dell, Lenovo, Gigabyte and others will be looking to use the new NVIDIA A100 PCIe accelerator.

Mark Gurman’s newsletter Power On suggests that the coming few weeks are not going to be as exciting in terms of releases as not a lot of news is expected. Apple has not yet released anything about the new MacBook Pro models nor the low-cost iPad and iPad mini but it may begin to build up hype for its products in the coming weeks.
The iPad mini has been long overdue for an update, the majority will be looking at the new MacBook line and what it holds.
Previous reports from a reliable tipster had suggested that Apple is expected to launch a 14″ and a 16″ MacBook Pro in late October or early November, and in those releases, we can also expect a new Mac mini. Two of Apple’s biggest concerns have been releasing the new MacBook Pro despite the ongoing chip shortage and mini-LED production.
While Apple did add a new supplier to reduce the production burden, and with reports of TSMC giving Apple priority in matters of chip delivery, there could be additional factors at play.
Despite all this, it could still be possible that Apple may release limited units of the new MacBook Pro models at the time of its official release, stick levels are expected to increase shortly. Gurman also reports that Apple is exploring larger iPad screen designs that go beyond the 12.9″ threshold. Only time will tell if this will materialize.
