Broadcom’s CEO calls demand ‘real’ as chip orders rush in

0

Hock Tan, Chief Executive Officer of American chipmaker Broadcom Inc., said customers are beefing up semiconductor orders at an unprecedented pace and tried to put an end to concern that this will create an excessively abundant supply later on.

“We see customers accelerating the bookings for early deliveries and attempting to build buffers and creating the demand-supply imbalance you all hear out there,” Tan told analysts during an earnings conference call on Thursday, according to Bloomberg.

Customers have already ordered approximately 90% of the 2021 supply of Broadcom. During a normal year, chipmakers have about a quarter of their supply locked up like this. Since the middle of the pandemic-inflicted year of 2020, the company has reviewed its order backlog to make sure it appropriates with the actual consumption of end products such as smartphones and Wi-fi gear. While some industries have complained of a severe chip supply crunch, Tan said Broadcom has anticipated order levels and planned out enough production from its outsourced providers to meet its customers’ needs.

“We believe this is real,” Tan said. “Our revenue reflects what’s being consumed by end-users.”

Across the industry, lead times — the amount of time it takes to get a chip after you order it — have climbed upwards of 14 weeks. That has sparked concern among the chipmakers that customers purposely order too many semiconductors to head off future supply shortfalls. This double ordering often negatively impacts order cancellations and declining revenue for chipmakers later on.

Chip stocks have slumped in recent days including Broadcom, whose shares slipped about 2.5% in extended trading, on concern that industry earnings are peaking. Throughout Thursday’s call, Tan’s assurances that the current expansion is sustainable were questioned.

Almost a year ago, Tan was one of the first chipmaker CEOs to alert customers to order well before-hand to guarantee supply.

Despite smartphone chip orders facing a seasonal decline, Tan expects fiscal second-quarter chip revenue to grow at about 17% and throughout the year sees growth persisting. Still, he acknowledged that this growth rate is unusually high, also notifying that Broadcom customers can’t cancel orders.

Compared with an average analyst estimate of $6.33 billion, the company predicted revenue in the three months ending April will be about $6.5 billion.

Broadcom’s businesses span smartphone parts, semiconductors that run home Wi-Fi gear and set-top boxes, and key networking equipment components. That reach makes its projections an indicator of future demand for major technology companies such as Samsung, Google, and Apple.

According to data compiled by Bloomberg, in the fiscal first quarter, compared to analysts’ estimate of $4.93 billion, Broadcom reported its main chip division, semiconductor solutions, generated $4.91 billion in sales.

Chelsea beat Liverpool at Anfield courtesy of Mason Mount’s beautiful goal

Liverpool’s bad run continues. Liverpool suffers fifth straight loss at Anfield last night. Jurgen Klopp’s men lost against Chelsea by 1-0 last night. Mason Mount’s 42nd minute goal is the only difference between two side.

Liverpool is not in impressive form recently. With injury issues, a recent dip in the players’ form has caused the defending champions serious trouble in the league.

Liverpool went with the best possible XI they have to face Thomas Tuchel’s men. Chelsea dominated from the very first minute of the game. In the 24th minute, Timo Werner found the net, but the VAR ruled it out for a close offside.

In the 42nd minute, Mason Mount put the London side into the lead. The Chelsea midfielder fired passed Alisson to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Liverpool tried to make a comeback in the second half but that was not enough to break the deadlock. After the match, Jurgen Klopp told that it is a ‘massive blow’ for his side. He said, “It is not about Anfield or whatever, it is in general, too often. In the decisive moments we have to improve.”

“You cannot say it is only at home. We have to show our quality in these moments and we don’t do that often enough.”

“It was a tight, intense game. It is a massive blow. We have to win football games. It is not done yet.”

Jurgen Klopp subbed off Mohammed Salah at the hour mark which was a controversial decision in the context of the game. He said, “I just brought on fresh legs. Mo looked like today he suffered a bit, he played a lot of games.”

“I could have taken off Sadio (Mane) or Bobby (Firmino). That is all clear but at that moment it looked like Mo.”

However, Liverpool is now 7th in the table. The Reds are now struggling just to finish in the top four. It will be interesting to see how Jurgen Klopp tackles this downfall and bring them back on track.

WhatsApp for Desktop finally receive Voice and Video Calling feature, Group calls to be added in the future

0

WhatsApp on Thursday announced that voice and video calling has been added as a new feature on its desktop app for Windows and Mac, a move that will now allow users to make calls through their desktop PCs or laptops. In December last year, the Facebook-owned application started rolling out voice and video calls from the desktop app for select users only.

“Answering on a bigger screen makes it easier to work with colleagues, see your family more clearly on a bigger canvas, or free up your hands to move around a room while talking,” the company said in its official announcement of the new feature.

The instant messaging platform said voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted, calling from a mobile device or a desktop PC does not matter. The security and privacy features will remain the same, so WhatsApp can’t hear or see them whether the call is made from phones or computers.

“We’re starting with one-to-one calls on the WhatsApp desktop app so we make sure we can give you a reliable and high-quality experience. We will be expanding this feature to include group voice and video calls in the future,” it added.

To ensure easy operability on the desktop app, WhatsApp has made arrangements for it to work seamlessly on portrait and landscape orientation and appear in a standalone, resizable window to suit the user’s needs. It is set to appear on top so that users don’t lose their video chats amid a stack of open windows or browser tabs.

Notably, WhatsApp also said that users can only place one-to-one calls from the desktop app and said that this is to ensure that a “reliable and high-quality” experience is being delivered. Group voice and video calls will reportedly be included in the future.

WhatsApp said in its press release that it has seen a notable increase in users calling one another through the app.

“Last New Year’s Eve, we broke the record for the most calls ever made in a single day with 1.4 billion voice and video calls. With so many people still apart from their loved ones and adjusting to new ways of working, we want conversations on WhatsApp to feel as close to in-person as possible, regardless of where you are in the world or the tech you’re using,” WhatsApp said.

Earlier in January, face and fingerprint unlock when linking devices was also announced by the company as another new security feature for WhatsApp Web and Desktop. “This adds a layer of protection when you want to link your WhatsApp account to your computer,” the company said. With the new feature, users will be asked to link their WhatsApp accounts to their computer via Face ID or fingerprint.

Netflix rolls out ‘Fast Laughs’ on the mobile app, a TikTok-like feature to watch short funny clips

0

The American OTT content platform Netflix Inc has launched a Tik-Tok-like feature for its iPhone app called “Fast Laughs” that will give its subscribers the opportunity to get their dose of laughter, without having to watch a whole comedy TV show or movie.

According to Netflix, the Fast Laughs tab, which has been added to the mobile app, will launch a stream of funny snippets from TV shows, movies, comedy routines, and sitcoms.

“Wanna see something funny?” Netflix asked rhetorically in a blog post.

“On Netflix, this one little question opens up lots of possibilities from hilarious series and films to laugh-out-loud stand-up specials,” it further stated.

However, according to recent reports, ‘Fast Laughs’ availability, for now, is limited to iOS device owners in select countries. The feature looks and feels very similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels, the major difference being that content creators do not make fast Laugh videos. The concept is that different short clips, which are taken from shows like the adult animation comedy ‘Big Mouth’ among other comedy shows, or stand-up specials from comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and Ali Wong, will play directly within the Netflix app.

“This is the part where we have to say that not all clips will be appropriate for all audiences,” Netflix said in the post.

If any of the shows, films, or comedy specials that you see in the Fast Laugh tab sparks interest, you can add the said title to your saved list to watch later. Patrick Flemming, director of product innovation at Netflix, said, “We’re always looking for new ways to entertain and make discovery easier for members.”

To access Fast Laughs, select the new icon located in the Previews row in the Netflix app display. Like on the rival app TikTok, the Fast Laugh feed provides a row of buttons to give reactions to the video that is being watched.

All content available on this new feature can also be shared on social media platforms.

Currently, Fast Laugh is still in a trial phase for Netflix users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and some other countries. It is still unclear whether Netflix has plans of expanding the Fast Laugh’s availability worldwide or not.

“We do experiments like this (Fast Laugh) in different countries and at different times – and will only make it widely available if people find it useful,” said Netflix.

Meanwhile, YouTube Shorts, which is Youtube’s quick clips meant to compete with TikTok, were racking up 3.5 billion views a day during beta testing in India, the platform’s head informed last month.

Considering the growth and prominence of TikTok in the market right now and Netflix’s last few earnings reports specifically referencing TikTok as a major competitor, Fast Laughs makes sense for Netflix to come up with. Though Netflix and TikTok make different types of content, people spending more time on TikTok results in less time on Netflix.

Redmi Note 10 max Pro’s some interesting points you should know

Redmi India has launched the Note 10 series including Redmi Note 10, Note 10 Pro, and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. Content creators have got early access to some of the devices of the series and are letting people know their honest opinions on these devices of the Redmi Note 10 series. Some of them have also put the most important 108MP camera sensor in the test as well. Especially the details on the camera of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max will be discussed here. We have come across some information that reveals some important details of the camera of this model.

Also Read: Realme GT 5G launched in China starting at ¥2799

1. First of all talking about the 108MP camera sensor, after clicking phone in 108MP camera mode the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max takes few seconds time to process the high-resolution image. Within that time if the camera is moved or the phone the image will have a blurry effect on it. This used to happen a long time ago when smartphone companies like Oppo, Gionee, and others had just introduced the Ultra Pixel technology that allows a 16MP camera to click pictures like 64MP camera and on that process we have to keep the phones still until the photo is fully processed or else we can get a hazy image.

2. A lot of people loves filming on the go which leads to another concern. In Normal mode the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max’s video is not stable while walking. This means that the EIS does not work properly or needs more calibration.

3. While in Wide-angle mode the video is reported to be stable while walking.

Eriksen is now a viral part of Inter’s project, Lautaro Martinez to extend his contract

0

Some changes are set to take place at Inter Milan. Owners, Suning, have decided to leave football and the same will happen in Italy in all probability. Speaking on the situation of the Nerazzurri on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano added that Christian Eriksen was on the verge of a Premier League comeback, since Spurs and Leicester were interested in signing the player during the winter transfer market.

He is now heavily into the project at Inter Milan. He was never playing before the Milan derby, but that free kick goal against Inter’s city rivals has shaken things up for him and he is now playing and is a part of the project. Conte was furious with Eriksen during the winter, and Inter CEO Beppe Marottawas also seemingly ‘done’ with the player.

But they always wanted a loan and the salary of the player to be paid by whoever signed him on loan, which no club ended up agreeing to Ultima. Now, of course, Eriksen is a vital part of the project and is looking to revive his season with the team at the top of the table.

An update on the contract of Lautaro Martinez: He is extending the contract for sure, as confirmed by Romano and Porzio.  They are just discussing including or changing the €111 million release clause that the player has in his contract.

Messi wants both Neymar and Lautaro Martinez at Barcelona

He is happy to stay at Inter, and is one of their most productive players, having found the back of the net 13 times this season already, and forming a brilliant partnership with Romelu Lukaku up front.
