If you are an Overwatch League fan, then there is a big announcement for you. In its recent announcement, Blizzard has declared that it is going to officially end its six-year-long series, Overwatch League.
As of now, it is not clear what the future holds for Blizzard or how they are going to turn the tables upside down. However, given the performance of Blizzard and its Overwatch League, we can just assume that their next project will be great.
Overwatch League Official Ending: What Next?
In a statement, an Activision Blizzard spokesperson has stated that the company is “evolving competitive Overwatch in a new direction”. So in light of this statement, we can assume that the upcoming events will be unique, innovative, and exciting.
Also, Blizzard now will focus on introducing something that has now happened till now. This will help it to move ahead in the competition, retain its existing players as well to attract new ones.
The spokesperson continued by saying “we are grateful to everyone who made OWL possible and remain focused on building our vision of a revitalized esports program. We are excited to share details with you all in the near future.”
This recent statement by Blizzard perfectly aligns with what the company earlier stated this year. According to the report, player teams are allowed to continue in the league “under an updated operating agreement.” Those team players who refused to sign shall be offered a $6 million payout.
The report points out that the Overwatch scene will continue to exist professionally. Also, Overwatch League commissioner Miller has stated in a statement that the company is “committed to a competitive ecosystem in 2024 and beyond.
However, what he didn’t clarify is what the “competitive ecosystem” will be in the future. The fact we shouldn’t forget here is that the Overwatch League has played a significant role in the development and popularity of Blizzard.
