Apple intends to launch an update for iOS 17 to tackle a bug that is potentially responsible for the overheating problems reported in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This information was shared by the company in a statement to reporter David Phelan.

Furthermore, Apple has attributed some of the overheating issues to recent updates of third-party applications that have overwhelmed the system. Notable apps mentioned in the report include Instagram, Uber, and the racing game Asphalt 9: Legends. Apple is working with these app developers to solve the problem. It’s worth noting that Instagram has already released an update to address the issue.
Apple has clarified that iPhone 15 Pro models might show high-temperature levels during the initial days after setup or device restoration due to the background activities. This behavior is usual for new iPhones and is only a temporary condition. Apple’s official statement reads as follows:
“We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity. We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out.”
The bug is expected to be addressed in iOS 17.1, which is currently in beta and is anticipated to be released in late October. Apple might also consider releasing a smaller software update, like iOS 17.0.3, to address the issue more accurately. According to the report, Apple has no plans to reduce the performance of the A17 Pro chip as part of the bug fix related to temperature issues. Apple has assured users that this issue is not a safety concern and will not impact the long-term performance of affected iPhones.
Additionally, Apple has ruled out any hardware-related problems associated with the iPhone 15 Pro’s titanium frame and aluminum substructure. It’s important to note that not all iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users have experienced overheating problems, and the overall extent of the issue remains unclear. However, Apple is actively working to resolve it, and a solution should be available soon.
