Oneplus has received flak for its software update policy and its reluctance to provide frequent updates in the long run to their flagship devices and even the Nord. Today the brand released an updated and revised Software Update Policy.
Oneplus has released that their Flagship devices will now receive all Major Android OS updates for a time duration of 3 years from the date of their launch. They will also be providing 4 years of Security updates on a frequent basis to all their flagship users, from the date of their launch. Oneplus has said that this new policy will be applicable to users of the OnePlus 8 Series and devices released after.
For OnePlus Nord and Nord CE users, Oneplus has declared that they will provide 2 years of Major Android Updates from the date of the launch of the device. Nord and Nord CE users will also get 3 years of Security Updates on a frequent basis.
For users of the Nord N series, the Nord N200 5G which was launched recently last week, Oneplus’ entry-level series, many of the earlier devices which are yet to receive software updates especially the Android 11 update as they are still running on Android 10. The Nord N series will receive 1 major Android Update and will get 3 years’ worth of Security Updates at frequent intervals.
OnePlus 8 series will stick to the previous schedule of receiving 2 major Android updates and up to 3 years of security updates.
