On Thursday, OnePlus revealed that the OnePlus Open Apex Edition will make its way to India and globally as soon as August 7. The firm will also launch a new color of the phone, to go along with its debut. The official website also suggests this version might get bumped in RAM and storage. The phone was introduced in India with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage when it debuted the OnePlus Open back in October of this year.
The Upcoming OnePlus Open Apex Edition
OnePlus Teaser on X (formerly Twitter) indicates that the upcoming OnePlus Open Apex Edition will be a colour known as Crimson Shadow which seems to sport some shade of crimson and vegan leather finish. This new color is inspired by the company’s signature “Never Settle” red and will join the existing color options, Emerald Dusk and Voyager Black.
While this launch is probably a follow-up to the introduction of last year’s foldable smartphone, it should be an upgraded version not requested by anyone. Followed by the OnePlus Open 2 coming in Q2 of 2025, powered with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 platform. Although OnePlus does not reveal the full specifications of Apex Edition, it is likely to use most internals from the standard OnePlus Open with upgrades.
Further, a listing on the brand’s website hinted at another variant with higher RAM and storage. The OnePlus Open features a 7.82-inch 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED primary display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and up to 2,800 nits of peak brightness. The exterior has a 6.31-inch 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED display with similar refresh rate and brightness specs.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and Adreno 740 GPU, it includes 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, running on OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13. The camera setup, branded by Hasselblad, includes a 48-megapixel Sony LYT-T808 primary camera with OIS and EIS, a 64-megapixel 3X telephoto camera with an OmniVision OV64B sensor, and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide-angle camera. For selfies, it has a 20-megapixel camera on the primary display and a 32-megapixel camera on the cover display. The device is powered by a dual-cell 4,800mAh battery with 67W SuperVOOC charging via USB Type-C.
