Design and Build Quality
OnePlus has introduced a new design element for the OnePlus Nord Buds 3r. It is completely different from its predecessor, OnePlus Nord Buds 2r, and much like its brother, OnePlus Nord Buds 3. The OnePlus Nord Buds 3r does not have a pebble-shaped case, but it is more of a rectangular case, which looks and feels pretty good to use. The case is sturdy and does not give the feeling of a cheap plastic build. However, the earbuds’ design does feel the same as its higher-priced OnePlus Nord Buds 3.
The earbuds boast a 2-mic AI Call Noise Cancellation and have IP55 Dust and Water Resistance to make it easier for you to use them outdoors without any second thoughts. From the build quality perspective, you won’t have anything to complain at this price range.
It is available in two colours – Ash Black (the one we have reviewed) and Aura Blue.
Connectivity
The OnePlus Nord Buds 3r has Bluetooth 5.4 along with Google fast pair and Dual device connection. It has all the necessary connectivity features to cover all the bases. The Bluetooth range is around 10m, which is the industry standard, so you don’t have to always keep your phone in your pocket. The Voice Assistant Shortcut, Find My Earbuds and Double-Tap for Camera Control are added bonuses.
OnePlus hasn’t cut on the connectivity front as it has all the features of its higher-priced variant. It supports audio formats of AAC and SBC and has Bluetooth transmission protocol of BLE/SPP/HFP/A2DP/AVRCP. You will have the options in your Android phones of all the controls of these earbuds via the Bluetooth settings, from Dirac Toner to Sound Master Equaliser, and you can easily configure them. Otherwise, you can also use the HeyMelody app to customise it.
Battery Backup
The OnePlus Nord Buds 3r earbuds have a battery capacity of 58 mAh, and the charging case boasts a 560 mAh battery. OnePlus claims that these earbuds last 12 hours and around 54 hours when charged with the charging case. These are pretty decent figures.
However, when we used them in real-life scenarios, the OnePlus Nord Buds 3r lasted around 9-10 hours and with the charging case, around 40 hours. So you don’t have to worry about charging it frequently and can use it for a long time seamlessly.
Audio Quality
Now, coming to the main part. The most important thing about an earbud is its audio quality. The OnePlus Nord Buds 3r comes with 12.4mm dynamic drivers and a titanized vibrating diaphragm. It produces clear and crisp audio, and the highs and lows are well balanced. You would find it soothing to listen to music or watch movies, or play games for a long time. The high volume won’t hurt your eardrums, although you won’t need to put it on high volume, as the sound is pretty loud and clear.
It also features 47ms low latency to make it your perfect gaming companion for long gaming sessions, thanks to its large battery life. The OnePlus 3D Audio and Sound Master EQ also adds more value to its audio quality, as you can customise it according to your taste. It also features AI translation, which you can activate with a simple tap to let your chats flow and break down language barriers.
For a mid-range earbud, it punches above its weight on the audio quality front. You can’t expect it to have ANC or other premium features. But it has all its bases covered to give you a seamless daily usage.
Verdict
The OnePlus Nord Buds 3r are the newest mid-range champ. It punches well above its price range on all fronts and is your perfect day-to-day companion. So, if you are looking for an earbud under Rs 2,000, then this should be one of your first choices to buy.
