OnePlus has not yet unveiled its inaugural foldable device, the Open, but the rumor mill is already abuzz with anticipation for its next high-end flagship, the OnePlus 12. The OnePlus 12 is slated to succeed the brand’s current flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 11 5G, which adheres to the conventional candy bar design and places a primary focus on performance and imaging capabilities.
Recent leaks suggest that the OnePlus 12 is in line for several enhancements, with more details emerging about its redesigned camera module, a distinctive finish, and additional insights into its camera hardware.
The Upcoming Leaked OnePlus 12
According to information shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the OnePlus 12 is set to feature a highly unique finish. The device is expected to come in a white glass variant that utilizes a “diffuse reflection process,” intended to effectively obscure any reflections on its glossy exterior. This finish is not only distinctive in appearance but also enhances the phone’s tactile appeal. In terms of weight, the OnePlus 12 is likely to be on par with Oppo’s recently released Find X6 Pro smartphone.
The OnePlus 12 also boasts a reimagined design for its rear camera module, which was previously hinted at in an earlier report. As per the tipster, this design will bear a striking resemblance to a wristwatch, incorporating a novel texture into the camera module’s design. While the lens configuration remains unaltered, the space between the camera lenses appears to adopt a texture reminiscent of a watch, providing a unique aesthetic element.
Furthermore, additional details regarding the camera module have come to light. The primary sensor is anticipated to feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX966 sensor equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 1/1.4-inch sensor size, a 23mm focal length, and an f/1.7 aperture. Complementing this is a 48-megapixel ultra-wide telephoto camera with a ½-inch sensor size (likely the Sony IMX581), a 14mm focal length, and an f/2.2 aperture. OnePlus is reportedly incorporating a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor for its telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. This sensor, too, employs a ½-inch format, potentially enabling hybrid zoom capabilities.
In line with previously leaked specifications, the upcoming OnePlus 12, initially slated for a China launch, is expected to retain its curved-edge display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device will be the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, complemented by up to 24GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage (at least for the Chinese models). The device will be supported by a 5,400mAh battery, offering both 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Moreover, it is anticipated to feature an official IP-rated body, addressing a notable omission from its predecessor.
