The I-League has been temporarily suspended for a week due to the increasing COVID-19 cases. The 2021-22 season of I-League started on 26th December and after just 1 matchday the league has been suspended.
According to reports, one of the team hotels that hosted Sreenidi Deccan, Real Kashmir and Rajasthan used their bubble staffs for the Christmas celebration. It was the first breach of the bubble, which was then followed by this breach where at least fifteen players and officials of the seven teams returned positive for the COVID-19.
The I-League officials met today via a video conference meeting and decided to suspend the league for at least 1 week. They will meet again on 4th January and decide whether to resume the I-League from 6th January.
