Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer. The centre-back has left Chelsea after his contract expired, and has signed a four-year deal with the new Champions League winners, with no option to extend for a further year.
The Germany international becomes the first confirmed signing for Los Merengues this summer. Carlo Ancelotti was key to convincing him for the move, and has gotten one of his most wanted targets in the transfer market.
Antonio Rudiger signs for Real Madrid
The Spanish giants have released an official statement which confirms Rudiger’s arrival and provides further details about his presentation:
“Real Madrid C.F. have reached an agreement to sign Antonio Rüdiger, who joins the club on a four-year deal.
Rüdiger will be unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Monday 20 June at 12 noon (CET) at Real Madrid City.
Following his unveiling, he will address the media.”
Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, Rudiger has been able to establish himself as one of the best central defenders in the world. He was also named in this year’s Champions League team of the season, after winning the trophy last year.
With his leadership and commanding presence at the back, Madrid will become a much more fortified unit. They are trying to bolster the midfield by trying to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco as well, and are making good progress on the deal.
