Nvidia has been in a war against preventing crypto miners from using its GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards for mining. For such matters, the company has introduced its hash rate limiter to its latest released cards. However, miners have found a simple hack around Nvidia’s proclaimed hash rate limiter and even managed to cause problems worse for the company.

However, it seems that the green team is not ready to give up just yet and has stated that it will be reintroducing cryptocurrency mining hash rate limiter on the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards. Recent sources indicate that the manufacturer of the graphics is working on the LHR (Lite Hash Rate) GPU lineup for its GeForce RTX 30 gaming graphics cards.

Nvidia itself announced that the latest released driver will update the hash rate limiter for the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB graphics card and is required for products shipped starting mid-May. So, the existing GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards will once again get crippled within mining when users update to the new drivers, and the newer variants based on the Ampere GA**2 line of chips will require this driver to work.

The news doesn’t affect the gamers who aren’t involved in mining; however, those who have powerful machines working non-stop for crypto mining will severely be affected by this new development. If the existing mining involved cards are updated with the latest drivers, it will cap the mining hash rate by 50%.

However, Nividia announcing that the existing GPUs won’t be affected by the hash rate limiter if they update their drivers means that the miners who don’t wish to update their drivers are safe. However, if they decide to get a newer GPU or even a powerful new edition into the market, they will be met with Nvidia’s latest hash limiter.

But, going with the tradition, it is only a matter of time before someone finds a workaround for this new limiter. Considering that it’s only a hardcoded algorithm makes it possible to be hacked.

Following are all the new NVIDIA Ampere GA**2 SKUs that you can expect:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 – GA102-300-A1 -> GA102-302-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 – GA102-200-A1 -> GA102-202-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 – GA104-300-A1 -> GA104-302-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti – GA104-200-A1 -> GA104-202-A1
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 – GA106-300-A1 -> GA106-302-A1
