Over at Chiphell Forums, an alleged NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Ti Founders Edition graphics card cooler has been revealed. The cooler could be the first peek at the new Founders Edition design that will be included on the next-generation Ada Lovelace GPUs.
According to speculations, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card could be released as early as July. This suggests that the initial reveal of the next-gen lineup based on the Ada Lovelace graphics architecture is approximately 2-3 months away. The GeForce RTX 40 series will require some beefy cooling, and it appears that NVIDIA is giving its existing Founders Edition design a considerable upgrade to fulfill the 450-600 Watt standard.
Three separate portions of the FE cooler can be seen in the supposed ‘GeForce RTX 4090 Ti’ photos. The silver-colored metal skeleton that goes around the heatsink for a good finish comes first. The metal plate currently has a small logo on the card that it is attached to. According to the leaked plate, it will most likely be installed in the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Ti flagship graphics card. However, one thing to note is that the logo’s position has shifted from right to left. It doesn’t matter where the label is placed because it will only be visible on the bottom side of the graphics card, but it may appear odd from a marketing aspect.

It appears that NVIDIA will now use a larger baseplate to cool not only the GPU but also the memory dies. On its RTX 3090 and 3090 Ti Founders Edition graphics cards, NVIDIA now uses thermal pads to transfer heat from the memory dies to the heatsink.
NVIDIA will be able to cool at least twelve GDDR6X memory chips with this new heatsink structure. The same PCB layout as the RTX 3090 Ti will most likely be used here, with four GDDR6 chips on the right/left side, three on the top, and one at the bottom. With NVIDIA’s next-generation cards slated to use higher-spec GDDR6X chips, the added cooling for the flagship AD102 parts will be critical. A big metal heat spreader for the VRMs is also included, as are two thermal pads for various components. On the leaked design, the heatsinks on the sides appear to have been upgraded from 23 to 24 fins.
Heat will be dispersed from the heatsink and out of the card using a flow-through cooling mechanism similar to that used on previous FE cards. With that stated, the card appears to have three or even four slots this time. It remains to be seen whether the RTX 4090 Ti cooler will be part of the lineup or if it will leak out much earlier.
So far, only reports suggest that the RTX 4090 will be the first to release, followed by the RTX 4090 Ti. It’s possible that this is a prototype for the ‘Ti’ cooler, or that NVIDIA manufactured a couple of prototype coolers and decided to go with the ‘non-Ti’ variety first. Again, this is a claimed photo of the next-gen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series cooling design, but we cannot be certain, so regard it as a rumor for the time being.
The AD102 ‘Ada Lovelace’ GPU is planned to have 144 SMs, which is a 71 percent improvement over the current GA102 GPU, and 18,432 CUDA cores. The GPU SKU for the GeForce RTX 4090 is said to include 16,128 CUDA cores, which is a 50% boost over the RTX 3090 but 14% less than the full-fat AD102 version, which could debut later as an the RTX 4090 Ti. This generation, the ‘Ti’ model of the 3090 received the full-fat GA102 GPU, but the non-Ti variant, despite being released earlier, came with a reduced configuration.
The Ada Lovelace GPUs will have larger L2 cache sizes in addition to higher SM counts. Starting with the AD102 GPU, the flagship would have up to 96 MB of L2 cache, a massive 16x increase over the GA102’s 6 MB L2 cache. This cache isn’t as large as AMD’s Infinity Cache on RDNA cards, but it’s still a significant improvement for NVIDIA’s graphics cards.
