Current 5G was designed to connect people — for voice calls, data, and retrieving information. That architecture simply wasn’t built for a world where billions of autonomous machines, vehicles, sensors, and robots need real-time intelligence from the network itself.

Nvidia’s argument is straightforward: AI needs to be embedded across the entire 6G stack — the radio access network, the edge, and the core — so that traffic can be routed dynamically by software that responds to rapidly shifting patterns in ways today’s hardware-locked systems cannot. Instead of proprietary, closed-off base stations, Nvidia is pushing for open, software-defined radios that run on general-purpose computers and can be updated like any software platform.

Jensen Huang put it bluntly at MWC: telecoms are next in line for the AI infrastructure buildout that has already transformed data centres. As TechnoSports has noted, Nvidia is systematically expanding its AI footprint from chips to clouds to now the very networks that connect them.

The AI-RAN Alliance, which Nvidia co-founded and which now counts over 130 member companies, will serve as the standards body driving this transition forward.
