AMD recently announced its new Smart Memory Access (SAM) feature on its latest 500 series motherboards i.e. B550 and X570. This feature, however, is exclusive to AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs when paired with new Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs as for now.
But, if you are a B450 or X470 motherboard owner, don’t be sad as AMD will be enabling the same feature that gives you extra performance at no extra cost. The AGESA v2 1.1.0.0 update has brought Smart Memory Access (SAM) to 400 series motherboards also but with new AMD CPUs and GPUs.
Although the update depends on the board partner, like ASUS and ASRock are the only ones that have enabled this feature. But, as this feature is not only exclusive to AMD and its Ryzen 5000 CPUs, in coming days you can expect the same to be enabled on Ryzen 3000 CPUs as well but with new RX 6000 series graphics cards.
AMD is also working to bring the feature with Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs as well, NVIDIA is also working to make an AMD Smart Access Memory alternative as the feature requires only PCIe gen 3.0 and resizable BAR support.
