London-based tech innovator Nothing has just unveiled the winners of its highly anticipated Phone (3a) Community Edition Project, marking a significant step towards a truly collaborative design process. This initiative, now in its second iteration, invited the Nothing community to contribute their creative visions for a unique new edition of the upcoming Phone (3a), and the results are nothing short of inspiring.

The Challenge: Reimagine the Phone (3a)

Nothing presented its community with four distinct briefs, challenging entrants to develop and submit groundbreaking ideas that would set the Phone (3a) Community Edition apart. The response was overwhelming, showcasing the incredible talent and passion within the Nothing community.

Meet the Visionaries: The Category Winners

After careful deliberation, the company is thrilled to announce the winners in the following four categories:

  • Hardware Design Winner: Emre Kayganacı (London, UK)
    • Emre, an industrial designer known for his work at the intersection of design and innovation, captivated the judges with his “Translucent Memories” concept. This nostalgic colorway for the Phone (3a) draws inspiration from the bold and playful gadgets of the 1980s and 90s, promising a delightful trip down memory lane.
  • Software Design Winner: Jad Zock (Lebanon)
    • Jad, a branding and type designer and a long-time member of the Nothing Community, impressed with his variable clock face design. This innovative clock enhances time memorability through flexible typography, employing a four-level hierarchy of width and weight to emphasize the most relevant digits depending on the time.
  • Accessories Design Winner: Louis Aymonod and Ambrogio Tacconi (Italy)
    • Louis and Ambrogio, founders of the creative studio Reveland, wowed the judges with their strikingly simple, timeless, tangible, and tactile “Dice (x6)” accessory. This design embodies the “fun” that Nothing strives for, adding a playful element to the Phone (3a) experience.
  • Marketing Campaign Winner: Sushruta Sarkar (London, UK)
    • Sushruta, a graphic designer, captured the essence of Nothing’s Community Edition with his “Made Together” campaign idea. This concept highlights the raw, unpolished explorations that are essential to the creative process, grounded in a design language that remains unmistakably Nothing: clean, playful, and bold.

From Concept to Reality: The Journey Ahead

The selected winners are about to embark on an exciting journey. They will travel to London to collaborate with Nothing’s Marketing, Industrial Design, and Software teams, where they will refine their winning concepts over the summer. The culmination of their efforts will be revealed later this year with the launch of the Phone (3a) Community Edition.
