The upcoming major update for the Nothing Phone is called Nothing OS 3.0 – and it’s expected to be released this summer, likely around the same time as the Nothing Phone (1) Community Edition. This limited version will boast fan-designed mods to the Nothing Phone (2a) hardware as well as wallpaper and packaging concepts from the public. The Nothing Community will also help in marketing the phone.
The Upcoming Nothing OS 3.0
Nothing OS 3.0 new features teased by CEO and founder Carl Pei Below Pei has an image of new features he revealed for the lock screen as well as upcoming interactive dot animations for Quick Settings, in his “X” account. Pei’s own “X” user name is “@getpeid,” which in his opinion is the best user name ever.
These shared images present three lock screen customization choices for Nothing users. Default: Shows the clock, day, and date. On the Clock + Widget there is a widget for the time in dots and three widgets for the weather, quick action shortcuts, and the date. The last choice is the Expanded Widget Area with an analog clock, expanded date tile, shortcut, weather, and contacts/widgets. Pei also explains about the new Interactive Dot Animation which is divided into 3 parts, Input Image Layer, Live Interaction Layer, and Final Output Layer.
Additionally, Nothing OS 3.0 is set to feature a new native gallery and community app. Pei mentioned that an official announcement about Nothing OS 3.0 is scheduled for September, following the release of Nothing OS 2.0 last August. The update will be available for the Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and the Nothing Phone (2a).
Pei was so enthusiastic about the upcoming Nothing OS 3.0 that he decided to leak information about the lock screen customizations. In his tweet, Pei humorously apologized to his team, saying, “Sorry in advance to the team for this leak… but I’m too excited!” It’s worth noting that Pei has previously used his personal social media accounts to leak details about forthcoming phones at both OnePlus (which he co-founded) and Nothing.
