While there have been many speculations about Nintendo Switch 2 for the last couple of years, none have been able to confirm the release date until now. According to a report from the Italian site UAGNA, referring to unnamed third-party accessory manufacturers, it’s expected to receive its first-party accessories on March 28. Based on this, they predict that the console itself will also arrive on this date.

Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored to Release on March 28, With Accessories Launching Alongside, Report Claims
However, it’s important to approach this rumor with skepticism, though it’s not entirely impossible. In another rumor last month, however, it was said an announcement is due in January, followed by a late March release. There were also rumors that the reveal would happen on January 8, 2025. This would be a much quicker turnaround than the original Switch’s launch. The Switch was first announced in October 2016, followed by a big reveal in January, and then it launched on March 3, 2017. If so, this could potentially mean that Nintendo is streamlining the promo timeline into the January unveiling.
Leaks have already revealed the expected specs for the Switch 2, and it’s unlikely they’ve changed. Once again, Nintendo has partnered with NVIDIA, this time around, to power their Tegra239 SoC, which appears to be a custom variant of the 2018 Orin SoC. It will support an eight-core CPU with 12 ARM Cortex-A78AE cores, an Ampere GPU with 2048 CUDA cores, NVIDIA’s DLSS Super Resolution, and Ray Reconstruction.
But some are disappointed that the Switch 2 will only be able to run 4K resolution at 30 frames per second when docked (rather than 60-120 frames per second, as rival consoles from Sony and Microsoft have been able to for years), something that might go the gaming fold when that console launch in 2025.
Analysts feel confident about the sales of the Switch 2 and predict as many as 80 million units could be sold by 2028, but success will depend heavily on game availability. And while Metroid Prime 4 is not out of the question as a launch title for a new platform, that hardware has to earn its keep with new titles besides backward compatibility (which is confirmed).
