Metroid Dread, also known as Metroid 5, is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD for the Nintendo Switch. Set after the events of Metroid Fusion, players control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she faces a new robotic enemy on the planet ZDR.
Nintendo, the current leader in the handheld gaming segment has now released a new trailer for Metroid Dread. The gaming company announced the trailer alongside Metroid Dread Report Vol. 5, and the volume details on new abilities that Samus will have at her disposal in the upcoming title.
“[The next report will shed] light on new mysteries revealed in an upcoming game trailer,” Nintendo writes in the video’s description on YouTube. “Please look forward to it on August 27.”
breaking down the trailer we can see Samus flying towards her next mission, after learning that she’s being sent as the backup solution to dealing with the last of the X parasites, who were the villains of Metroid Fusion.
In the trailer, there are many surprises and hints at what the gameplay will be and we are also getting a bit of voice acting here which is outside of the Metroid Prime trilogy and Metroid: Other M, the Metroid series relies on written text to deliver dialogue.
In the second half of the trailer, the sequence takes place sometime later and Samus seems to have replaced her standard Varia suit for the light blue one that she’ll seemingly wear for most of Metroid Dread.
In July, the handheld company, Nintendo has revealed this new suit that Samus was wearing. This suit is rumoured to be the one that Samus was wearing in the Metroid Fusion.
In Metroid Dread, Samus’s suit appears to have changed quite a bit from her previous missions. This is the result of the organic suit from Metroid Fusion–which was greatly transformed following the attack by the X parasitic lifeform and the injection of the Metroid vaccine–gradually returning to its original, mechanical Power Suit form.”
