Bruno Guimaraes is close to joining Newcastle United from Lyon, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The Magpies have submitted a €40 million offer for the defensive midfielder, which has reportedly been accepted by Lyon, although financial talks are yet to be completely sorted between the two clubs.
Guimaraes is currently in Ecuador with the national team, and will undergo his medical for the transfer when he returns to Brazil. Convincing the player to join was a difficult task, according to Romano, but it now seems that Newcastle are close to sealing their first midfield signing of the transfer window.
Bruno Guimaraes close to Newcastle
The midfielder had attracted interest from Arsenal and Juventus for a potential move, but has seemingly accepted the offer from Newcastle.
Guimaraes joined Lyon from Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense in January 2020 for €20 million. He has made 71 appearances for the French club in two years, and has scored three goals, while providing eight assists. Six of those assists have come this season itself, suggesting an attacking improvement from the player.
He has earned 3 caps for the Brazilian national team since earning his debut in November 2020, and is set to feature in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers as well. This summer, he was a part of the Brazil Olympic Team that won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Bruno Guimaraes will become the third signing for the ongoing transfer window alongside Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley.
