New Delhi, 2 June 2022: Amid the buzz around Panchayat for highlighting a few grassroots issues, a short film titled Chalein has been released on MX Player that delves into the long-persisted issue of suicides. The story revolves around Leeladhar, played by Chaipatti-fame Abhishek Sonpaliya, who is a hard-working employee contemplating suicide because of his boss. As he laments about his sad life with suicide seeming the only option, he is paid a visit by Yamraj’s officer from an anti-suicide squad, portrayed by Vivek K Rai.
Will Leeladhar go with him or will he stay back is the pertinent question answered in the comedy-drama short film produced by Saints Art – the makers of Chaipatti and Detective Boomrah – in association with Rai Sahab Motion Pictures. The questions raised and their answers assume significance as the threat of suicide lingers upon people of all ages, communities, and professions. Chalein is bound to leave the audience pondering upon the issue and how it can be tackled.
Talking about what inspired him to take up the issue, Chalein Director and writer Anant Rai said, “Over 153 thousand suicides were recorded in India in 2020. The figure is really disturbing as this shows how the young generation is unable to cope with life issues and often finds suicide as the only last resort. We hope that our film will be an eye-opener for the audience.”
Puneet Sharma, the co-producer of the film, said, “We have been offering unique content to the audience across discreet genres such as horror-comedy and detective thrillers. This time we bring something new for our audience in the form of this social awareness-comedy, which conveys a message without being preachy.”
Notably, Saints Art Private Limited has in the past produced short films like Chaipatti and web series such as Detective Boomrah, which have been lauded by the audience for their unique concept and content. It is soon slated to release another horror-comedy, which is likely a roller coaster experience for the viewers.
