AMD has already announced a stack of new Ryzen 6000 series APUs with new Zen 3+ architecture for CPU and RDNA2 graphics for iGPU based on the new 6nm process.

Now, a lot of reviewers and market insiders are getting their hands on new laptops bearing these new processors, these leaks suggest that AMD has played a strategic game over Intel rather than just stuffing only CPU performance and only CPU performance. Already they are far more efficient than 12th Gen Alder Lake SKUs as per the preliminary leaks while providing great value for “performance per watt” than the competition.

Recently, a detailed review of these AMD Ryzen 6000 APUs has been published on the Zhihu platform by an engineer working Lenovo Notebook Division in China. It shows a lot about the energy efficiency of these APUs along with the highly taunted battery life claims by AMD.

Thanks to the smaller process node these Ryzen 6000 series APUs offer up to 12 Compute Units based on RDNA2 microarchitecture, the same architecture powering the revolutionary PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. So, naturally this is a big upgrade from the prior Vega architecture, now AMD has named these iGPUs as Radeon 660M and 680M.

Not only do you get a healthy bump in GPU performance but also brings in support for modern-day gaming features like raytracing. Also, the new and fast DDR5 RAM does make a difference as the iGPU gets its memory from the RAM itself and the overall gaming performance you see in the benchmarks are very close to discrete MX450 graphics.

These new AMD Radeon 600M GPU offers better performance than both the GeForce MX450 (25W) and Intel Xe-LP (i7-11370H) in 1080p tests conducted by Lenovo. The flagship AMD Radeon 680M iGPU even goes to beat the likes of RTX 3050 in the Port Royal Raytracing benchmark and this makes it even interesting to see these AMD APUs in action in upcoming laptops.
