New MediaTek Helio G80 Octa-Core SoC with HyperEngine Technology detailed

MediTek is not stopping in the year 2020 when Qualcomm is launching its Snapdragon 720G, 662 & 460, Taiwan chip manufacturer has answered with its G70 and now with the G80 chipsets. These are the budget SoCs based out of 12nm architecture and will mostly be used in budget smartphones.

The G80 octa-core SoC will slightly more powerful version of the MediaTek Helio G70 SoC featuring two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz which handles daily tasks, while in the Helio G70 we see the six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.7GHz.

Like the Helio G70, this too offers support for up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM operating at a frequency of 1800MHz and also supporting eMMC5.1 storage. Being a 4G-SoC it is equipped with Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU for graphics, the same present in G70 as well.

MediaTek Helio G70 & G70T Gaming SoCs launched

Then there’s MediTek’s proprietory HyperEngine Game Technology that helps the processor to handle CPU and GPU resource allocation more intelligently and dynamically. It also improves the power efficiency for better battery life while gaming.

Also, there are other MediaTek HyperEngine connectivity enhancements are on board, alongside the in-house CorePilot, Pump Express, Tiny Sensor Hub, and Integrated VoW (voice on wakeup) technologies. On the connectivity front, we have Bluetooth 5.0, Beidou, Galileo, Glonass, GPS, and 4G LTE.

Much like the G70, the ISP inside the Helio G80 supports up to single 48MP camera or up to two 16MP cameras and video capture up to 1080p/60fps. The NeuroPilot engine is there to handle AI tasks like object and scene recognition, bokeh enhancement.

The SoC supports electronic image stabilisation (EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC), and AI-assisted face unlock. We saw the Helio G90T in the Redmi Note 8 Pro, the G70 in the recent Realme C3 and we can expect the new Helio G80 in a new budget device in the coming days.
