Nearly two years after it was first announced, Netflix’s animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s “Midnight Sun” is finally showing signs of life. A new casting call reveals key details about who’s being sought for the project — and just how long fans might still have to wait.
What Is “Midnight Sun”?
The series adapts Meyer’s companion novel to the original Twilight saga, retelling the iconic vampire romance through the perspective of Edward Cullen. Netflix and Lionsgate are partnering on the episodic animated project, with Stephenie Meyer herself serving as executive producer alongside showrunner Sinead Daly.

Who’s Being Cast Right Now
The latest casting call focuses on two pivotal Quileute characters: Jacob Black and his father, Billy Black. Casting directors are looking for Native American actors for both roles, with Jacob described as youthful, husky-voiced, and happy-go-lucky, while Billy is described as wise and kind, a tribal elder carrying the weight of protecting his community. Interestingly, no prior voiceover experience is required — the team is open to on-camera actors as well.
When Will It Actually Air?
According to the casting sheet, production is tentatively scheduled from August 2026 through May 2027, with voice recording centered in Los Angeles. Given animation’s notoriously long production timelines, this points to a realistic release window of late 2027 at the earliest, with 2028 looking more likely.
The Twilight franchise, based on Meyer’s best-selling book series, remains one of the most enduring young-adult romance properties, and this animated spinoff marks its first major screen expansion in years.
