Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo: Origins Is Shaping Up to Be Something Special — And Paul Walter Hauser Could Be the Secret Weapon

Zoinks! Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series is getting more exciting with every casting update — and the latest one might just be the most intriguing yet. Emmy-winning actor Paul Walter Hauser is reportedly in talks for a mysterious and franchise-defining role, and honestly, we couldn’t have dreamed up better news ourselves.

Scooby-Doo: Origins Netflix Series: Key Details

What’s the Show Actually About?

This isn’t your typical Mystery Inc. reboot. Scooby-Doo: Origins takes the gang all the way back to the beginning — specifically, their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne get entangled in a haunting mystery centred on a lonely Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Together with pragmatic Velma, and the oddly charming new kid Freddy, the group must unravel a creepy case that threatens to expose everyone’s secrets.

It’s darker, more serialized, and clearly aimed at audiences who grew up with the cartoons but are ready for something with real stakes.

Paul Walter Hauser — The Perfect Wild Card

Here’s where things get really interesting. Hauser has reportedly been offered the role of “Scooby’s original owner” — a character that doesn’t exist in traditional Scooby-Doo lore, suggesting the show is building an entirely new mythology around how Scooby came to be with the gang.

Hauser is on an extraordinary hot streak right now. Netflix fans know him as the beloved Stingray in Cobra Kai, and he’s also set to portray comedy legend Chris Farley in an upcoming SNL biopic. Most recently, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Mole Man in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Getting him on board would be a genuinely massive coup.
