MSI launches BIOS for Intel 600 Series Motherboard Support for Raptor Lake CPUs

The most recent motherboard manufacturer to announce support for motherboards with Intel 600 series chipsets for Intel Core processors is MSI. It just published a blog post with a list of what looks to be every motherboard in the 600 series, including models with the Z690, B660, H670, and H610 chipsets.

It appears that the 13th Gen Intel Core (Raptor Lake) family will be released soon given that these updates are being produced (or are already accessible) by the majority of the major motherboard manufacturers. It is intriguing, nevertheless, that neither the next-generation CPU codename nor generational number has been mentioned by MSI or the other motherboard makers.

According to MSI, each motherboard page has links to the newest BIOS updates. The news site does not link to them separately, but as most users will only download one or two BIOS files at most, searching MSI support is not particularly time-consuming. Some of you probably already have a bookmark for the product or support page for your motherboard.

Once discovered and stored, these upgrades can be easily applied by modern MSI motherboard users by utilizing either MSI M-Flash or the Flash BIOS button.

For would-be early BIOS flashers, there is a significant line of small text, though. Note that the original BIOS version is just for power-up reasons and is not appropriate for performance testing, according to MSI. This implies that for the majority of consumers, the recently released “next-gen BIOS” won’t be much more than a curiosity. Obtaining these files now looks somewhat meaningless because MSI will provide an updated “full function” BIOS when Intel launches its 13th Gen CPUs.

The language used by MSI regarding the new BIOS’ unsuitability for benchmarking is quite similar to that used by Asus. In the final sentence of our article from yesterday regarding evaluating an Intel Core i9-13900K using an Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme motherboard, we emphasized this claim about unsuitability for benchmarking.

As a result, MSI, Asus, and ASRock have all given these next-generation updates for their respective Intel 600 series motherboards. ASRock prepared their patches more than a fortnight ago. Gigabyte/Aorus is the only significant motherboard manufacturer that hasn’t announced any upcoming or new revisions. Like Biostar, EVGA, and NZXT, smaller motherboard manufacturers, we are also anticipating similar news.
