Mourinho’s sacking was decided after Zagreb loss; had nothing to do with Super League

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham in the middle of the chaos that started over the weekend, and it wasn’t related to the Super League. The main reason behind the dismissal of the Portuguese tactician was the results and the feeling within the club.

Former Spurs player and youth coach Ryan Mason has taken charge of the first team until the end of the season. He will be the newest to manage the team in a cup final since as far back as the 1950s. Mourinho was sacked six days before the EFL Cup final against Manchester City, and Mason will have to put his best up against the most in-form team in the country.

RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann is the subject of rumours as to who will replace Mourinho, and potentially Ryan Mason, but other managers are also in the list. Bayern are also in the race for Nagelsmann, which makes his appointment that much tougher given that Hansi Flick will be leaving the Bavarians at the end of the season.

Losing money from the Super League is something that could potentially affect them in the summer, but it did not drive their decision to sack Mourinho. Tottenham were already planning to sack him at the end of the season after the Dinamo Zagreb match. But now, it is done and the timing isn’t the best, but it is what it is after all.
