Moto G8 Plus launched with Snapdragon 665 & 48MP triple Cameras at Rs.13,999

Lenovo owned Motorola has been the country’s most loved smartphone brand and everyone knows the legacy of its G series of smartphones in India. When smartphones were on a hype Motorola was a key player in the market until the advent of Chinese smartphone brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

It’s market share dipped a lot after the rise of these Chinese manufacturers who eventually took over the smartphone market. Samsung and Motorola have been known for its quality smartphones at affordable price points and the US-based company’s key USP is its stock Android experience which they have stuck to till date.

The fast Android updates and Motorola’s camera have always been the key selling point of Motorola devices. The company has tried to regain its lost market by introducing smartphones like Motorola One, One Action, One Macro, E6s and One Vision smartphones and now they are reviving its G series with the new Moto G8 Plus.

Specs & Features

The new Moto G8 Plus features a splash-resistant polycarbonate body with a new triple rear camera setup, and on the rear side, we have mounted fingerprint scanner with the iconic Moto branding. It sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD screen with a waterdrop notch and the screen boasts of a 19:9 aspect ratio with 1080×2280 pixels resolution.

The smartphone is powered by the new 11nm process based Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC which features Octa-core Kryo 260 CPU that balances between 4 performance and 4 efficiency cores. On the GPU front, we have the Adreno 610 GPU which is a fair upgrade over its predecessor Snapdragon 660.

This SoC is featured in smartphones like Realme 5, Redmi Note 8 and Vivo U10. This smartphone is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Much expectedly, the smartphone runs on stock Android 9 Pie with some added Motorola features.

On the camera front, we have a triple camera system including a primary 48MP (f/1.79) Samsung GM1 sensor which is quite surprising as it misses the most used 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor. Also, it has a 16MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front side, we have a 25MP quad-pixel selfie camera under the waterdrop notch.

The Moto G8 Plus is juiced by a standard 4,000mAh battery, which is 1,000 mAh larger than its predecessor Moto G7 Plus. It also supports 15W fast-charging and now Moto has included a TurboPower charger in the box that promises 8 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charge. With all the essential connectivity features it also features dual stereo speakers with Dolby audio support as well.

Pricing & Availability

The new Moto G8 Plus will be available in only 4GB+64GB configuration and is priced at Rs.13,999 in India. The smartphone will be available in 2 stunning colour variants including Cosmic Blue and Crystal Pink, and the sale will start at the end of October only on Flipkart.

Motorola has finally brought a value-for-money G series smartphone with modern features and necessary specifications to compete against the likes of Redmi and Realme smartphones but if a Snapdragon 700 series SoC would have been included it would be much more compelling.
