12th Fail

Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail‘ emerged as a surprise success, relying solely on positive word-of-mouth. Made on a modest budget of 20 crores, the film earned 51.93 crores, boasting returns of 159.65%.

OMG 2

Despite facing a clash with ‘Gadar 2,’ Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer ‘OMG 2’ managed an impressive business of 150 crores, garnering positive reactions from the audience. It achieved returns of 130.76% against a budget of 65 crores.

Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited comeback in ‘Pathaan’ turned out to be a historic success, breaking pre-existing records at the Indian box office. Made at a lavish budget of 250 crores, the film earned a colossal 543.22 crores, enjoying returns of 117.28%.

Jawan

Continuing his winning streak, Shah Rukh Khan delivered another record-smasher with ‘Jawan.’ With a budget of 300 crores, the film did a splendid business of 640.42 crores, surpassing even the achievements of “Pathaan” and enjoying returns of 113.47%.

Fukrey 3

Closing in on the list is the multistarrer comedy ‘Fukrey 3,’ led by Varun Sharma and Pulkit Samrat. Riding on the goodwill of its predecessors and favourable word-of-mouth, the film earned 95.54 crores against a cost of 45 crores, boasting returns of 112.31%.


Despite high expectations, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ missed the top 10 most profitable list of 2023, possibly due to competition and varied audience preferences. However, the film remains noteworthy for its potential contributions to cultural discourse and artistic endeavours.

Beyond box office numbers, the films of 2023 left a lasting impact. ‘The Kerala Story’ highlighted storytelling potency, ‘Animal’ capitalized on controversies, and ’12th Fail’ showcased the power of positive word-of-mouth.
