The “Lady Superstar” is back in her most powerful avatar, and fans can’t stop buzzing. Reports suggest Mookuthi Amman 2, starring Nayanthara and directed by Sundar C, is eyeing a grand Diwali 2026 theatrical release — a festive treat that could finally bring the goddess back to the big screen.
What We Know So Far on Mookuthi Amman 2?
According to trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai, the makers are targeting the Diwali window, though an official confirmation from the production team is still awaited. The film is a sequel to the 2020 fantasy-comedy hit Mookuthi Amman, which released directly on OTT and became a cult favourite for blending satire with spirituality.

Why This Sequel Matters
The first film followed a reporter named Engels, whose life changes when the temple deity herself appears to expose fake godmen and spiritual scams — all wrapped in sharp comedy. A theatrical outing this time signals bigger scale and wider reach for the franchise, unlike its digital-only predecessor.
Nayanthara’s plate is already full — she recently featured in Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups and the romantic drama Hi opposite Kavin, with Dear Students also lined up next. Clearly, 2026 is shaping up to be one of her busiest years yet.
