Mithun Chakraborty

Mithun Chakraborty, often lovingly called “Mithun Da” by his fans, started his journey in cinema with a powerful debut in the 1976 art-house film Mrigayaa. Directed by the legendary Mrinal Sen, the film won him his first National Film Award for Best Actor, setting the stage for an illustrious career that would span multiple decades and genres.

Mithun’s rise to stardom wasn’t instant, but once it happened, it was meteoric. His breakthrough came with the 1979 spy thriller Surakshaa, and from there, he became a household name with iconic films like Disco Dancer, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, and Commando. His dance moves, especially in songs like “I Am a Disco Dancer” and “Jimmy Jimmy”, earned him a fan base that admired him not just for his acting but for his dancing prowess as well.

Mithun Chakraborty Reaction of the Award

Reacting to the news of his Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Mithun expressed a deep sense of humility and gratitude. “I have no language to express how I feel. Na main hass sakta hun, na Khushi mein ro sakta hun (I cannot smile, nor can I cry in happiness),” he told ANI. His emotional response reflects the journey of a boy from the bylanes of Kolkata who dreamed big, worked hard, and achieved a level of success that few can imagine. His words, “I dedicate this to my family and my fans across the world,” highlight the role of his loved ones and his fan base in his journey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Mithun on this significant achievement, calling him “a cultural icon” and praising his versatility as an actor who has left a lasting legacy in Indian cinema. Mithun’s son, Namashi Chakraborty, shared his immense pride, calling his father a “self-made superstar” whose life is an inspiration to millions.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is not the first prestigious honor Mithun has received. Earlier this year, he was conferred the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian awards. Over the years, Mithun has also been the recipient of three National Film Awards, further cementing his place as one of India’s finest actors. His ability to balance Bollywood blockbusters with meaningful Bengali films showcases his versatility and dedication to his craft.

In recent years, Mithun has expanded his repertoire beyond films. He became a beloved television personality as a judge on the popular dance reality show Dance India Dance, where his warmth and guidance won him a new generation of fans. He also made his debut in the digital streaming world with Bestseller, a psychological thriller series available on Prime Video, proving that even after decades in the industry, he continues to evolve and embrace new platforms.

Mithun Chakraborty’s story is one of resilience, hard work, and unwavering dedication. As he prepares to accept the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024, it is clear that his legacy is far from over.
