Casino gaming is an ever-expanding universe, and although online formats have been in the driving seat over the last decade, different formats have proven to be more successful than others. Players in the Middle East might be newer to the market than those in North America and Europe, but the components of live table games are universal, which means that many of the appealing factors are also universal.

Throughout the UK and Europe, live table games have really become a mainstay of the online casino industry. This includes popular games like poker, as well as smaller, niche live table games like baccarat. It might be unfair to frame baccarat as a niche game, given that it is the game of choice for James Bond, but the point is that it has adapted surprisingly well to the digital environment.

When you look at the Middle Eastern markets, live baccarat is actually one of the clearest examples of this growing interest. It demonstrates just how live table games can carve out a space for themselves, sometimes even outshining purely online formats. Online and virtual formats often attract different kinds of players, but baccarat really demonstrates that when a game has the right mix of excitement and interaction, it can find a dedicated audience anywhere.

What’s the attraction of live table games?

Casinos now cover such a vast array of gaming options that there is something for every type of bettor. Usually, those who play live table games tend to prefer the social element and personal, often customized nature of these game designs. Live dealer games feature a live dealer, and there will frequently be some sort of live chat option or interaction where the dealer will reach out and address your username if you land a big win.

Obviously, for those who enjoy conventional games but don’t want to travel to a physical casino, a live table game is the perfect middle ground. You still get an element of the social side, but you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home, so there’s still the convenience you get from other online formats, with a social, personal element sprinkled on top.

Exploring the range of games available

It doesn’t matter if you enjoy playing slot games or if you have a penchant for roulette, there’s no shortage of options, and live table games are an expansion of this library. In the early days of online casinos, slots fell into a specific format and had far fewer genres and themes than they do today.

However, once the 2000s unraveled, it became clear that a greater range of gaming options was crucial for the industry to sustain its incredible growth.

The release of the latest iPhone will be music to the ears of gamers who prefer live table games. Although the price of the iPhone 17 won’t have many people rushing to the store to pick one up, smartphones have become the new battleground for game designers who are looking to bring live table games to an entirely new customer base.

As our world becomes more smartphone-centric, online casinos have followed a similar format. With live table games, latency is no longer an issue on modern-day smartphones, unlike it was in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The ease of access, the number of smartphone options available and the sheer number of new live table games that have been released over the last decade have helped to propel the global market to new heights.

While the online casino gaming market in the Middle East might not be as well-established as it is in the West, the same variables are reshaping the market and allowing live table game developers and designers to find success.

Human-driven rather than automated

Artificial intelligence is finding its way into more and more areas of everyday life, and the world of gaming is no different. We have already seen how AI is being used in video games, and it seems likely that online table games could eventually feature digital leaders or new types of (RNG) random number generators.

Even with those advances, many players still prefer the comfort of a real person at the table and like the clear view of the cards being dealt or the simple act of a dealer changing the shoe. Small moments like these give players a sense of fairness and trust that computer systems struggle to match.

This hesitation toward automation isn’t limited to casinos. In the wider gaming industry, performers have gone on strike to protest the growing use of AI, a reminder that people often value human involvement more than technological efficiency. For live table game fans, the same feeling applies as while AI can make games faster or more convenient, many still want the reassurance of a real person running the show.

Final thoughts

While it ultimately boils down to personal preference, there are clear reasons that people prefer live table games to other online formats. Personally, I like both types of games; I don’t really have a preference, but if you like the human element and having a social element to your casino gaming, then live table games speak directly to your preferences.

Since technology has become so integral to the development of live table games, smartphones and other mobile devices have become the primary means for players to access these platforms. As long as this trend continues on a global scale, we can expect it to appear within Middle Eastern gambling markets as they arise.
